  2. It's unfortunate that when a park fails to honor Escapees... or any organization .... that they don't contact Escapees saying that's their new policy. I can't imagine Escapees having to contact every one of the parks in their directory to see if they're still being honored..... and how long would it last before having to contact all of the parks again to update. I think it's the park's responsibility. If, by chance, the parks do this then yes, Escapees is dropping the ball by not taking the park out of their directory.
  3. No reason to assume that. We've seen many free spots with a host. Hosts aren't paid.
  4. He mentions 'public campgrounds'; not open land.
  5. The things you mention were what we, as volunteers, alerted the camper to correct. If not done, we were asked by the manager when we first began to take the issues to him/her and it would be addressed. The issue was always corrected. I guess it depends on the park manager as to how he cares about the park.
  6. Why not go to the state park's web site for all the information?
  7. I think a ramp is out of the question for the high door entrance to a 5th wheel. Ramps need a gentle slope so you'd have to have a very long one which wouldn't be easy to manage putting in and out. https://handiramp.com/blog/what-length-ramp-should-i-order-for-3-stairs/ There are portable aluminum stairs available that fold down. I'd advise a hand rail for safety and ease of getting up. https://rv-co.com/free-standing-steps.html You also might want to consider getting a travel trailer. They are much lower to the ground. Good luck!!
  8. Welcome! I admire you for what you're planning to take on. You're talking of selling everything and taking off. I'm wondering if you've ever RV'd before. You might want to consider renting a RV for a trip and taking everyone to see how they all do. Full-time RVing in itself is a difficult change for some. For your mom with dementia... they like to wander so being in strange places might confuse her more. She'll need watching as I'm sure you will do. With these obstacles make sure you have a backup plan if it doesn't work out. Best of luck to you!
  9. That is really weird. The bed is really cramped in there.
  10. No one has the right or freedom to harm another person! Get vaccinated!!
  11. Nightmares/dreams.... only a nightmare causes you to wake up: https://www.sleepfoundation.org/nightmares
  12. Call Jayco? Good luck... they're annoying to look at.
  13. When thinking about changing layouts in a small RV you have to make sure of where your holding tanks are located. Some are under the bed; some under the dinette seat.
  14. How long do you stay in one place boondocking? We had 105 fresh; 65 grey; 45 black and could easily last 2 weeks.
  15. Welcome! State parks have a 2-week limit but you could move to another in the area after the 2 weeks. Same with the Corp of Engineer campgrounds. Alternate between the two. That would probably be your best bet unless you could find a 'plain Jane' RV park that doesn't have restrictions on what kind of RV you have. They're out there.
  16. We have both driven it multiple times both directions with our 40' MH towing the Jeep. 4-wheeling there is a top favorite of ours!!
  17. Good site to look at fuel price history. Gas is $2.99 today here in AZ. https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pri_gnd_dcus_nus_w.htm
  18. Liberty Harbor is the very best place to stay for ease of getting into the city. This blogger has done it a few times and she gives very good reviews, photos and even driving directions. She has about 4-5 posts on it so don't just read one. If you have any questions she is wonderful at replying and ever so helpful. Contact her. https://wheelingit.us/?s=liberty+harbor
  19. You might try using this site. I wish more would post reviews it would be a good asset to have. This is Inland Truck Parts & Service in Denton 940-381-2414. Try to schedule as you're traveling so they'll be ready for you upon arrival. This goes for anyplace as traveling. Don't expect to drive up and get an oil change at that instant. If they can't do it perhaps they can recommend someone. You didn't say where you're coming from but at the bottom of this link is a box stating "Back to List". Click on it and it will show you other RV places by city and state. Good luck! http://rvservicereviews.com/ReviewDetails.asp?Submit=SHOW&FacilityID=4331&State=&Search=&CategoryID=5
  20. On Hwy 67 toward the national park you'll come to De Motte national forest campground on the right. It's very nice. Immediately past it on the right is F.S. 22. Turn there and head west for about 3/4-1 mile. It's flat, good gravel. As soon as you start to see trees you'll see places to boondock. Pick your spot. If you have a trailer try to pull over at first opportunity and get out and walk a little to scout. If you have a motorhome, we've parked on the highway around De Motte.... nice wide shoulders and detached the car to take scouting. You don't have to look long and you don't have to drive more that a mile after coming to the boondocking spots. It's a nice place and the national park entrance gate is nearby. You might even try for a site in the national park's campground. So you have 3 options right there. I'm curious.... what does Campendium have to say about this spot?
  21. ... just some things I picked up on from your opening post that you may want to think about: "I've noticed a...shall we say, reluctance...on the part of my husband to find a way to fix things we've never had to fix before. And now I'm worried. I have deep concerns that this is going to be a major issue if we do the RV trip. I'm worried that I'm going to end up tackling things alone instead of working toward solution together when it's something neither of us knows how to do, and I fear I'll end up angry and resentful. For the past 3 years I've been the one doing all the research on how to handle RV issues, so I think I'll be assumed to be the one to get things done on my own. He's very enthusiastic about the trip, but perhaps not thinking so much about the realities of maintenance. Has anyone else gone through this? How have your handled it? Is it a dream-killer? I'm honestly not sure we should go through with the plan now." Since no one replied to your last paragraph perhaps it's not a common thing. However, your comment of "not sure we should go through with the plan now" sounds like a lot of hesitation on your part. If you're going to pre-worry then you may be right. Have you two really sat down and talked about your concerns? He doesn't sound worried at all and I'm sure he's intelligent enough to be thinking of what's in store. Perhaps what you now need to do is to get the RV and take off. Do some traveling and hook up with the Xcapers group since you mentioned you have joined. Get some group therapy from them. Groups like that are always willing to hash out problems and 'how to's'. They'll laugh along with everyone's mistakes. Your hubby will be able to see how everyone else tackles various issues..... and you, also. I think you'll find out that everyone has problems at times and they're all solvable. I think you need to take that 1 year vacation you've been planning. Good luck! We had so many comical and some serious issues as we traveled starting with Day 2. Honestly, even the serious ones were solvable by either us or with outside help. We made our full-time decision in May and sold the house & everything in it and took off for good in August. Not much time but we were so very anxious to go. We had never heard of full-timing and had no idea what laid ahead. We learned as we went and have absolutely no regrets.
