  1. Ferry from Wisconsin to Michigan: https://www.ssbadger.com/faqs/ RVs - $7/foot Auto - $75 Passenger - $62-$69 Pets stay in vehicle or in a kennel on car deck; not in main areas
  2. Have driven it with all size RVs many, many times as we lived in Michigan. No issues ever. It closes if winds are 50mph and in winter if ice falls from the cables. Closures don't happen often. The speed limit is 45mph so you're going slow. No stopping allowed and no U-turns. I believe they still have a pre-arranged service that someone will drive for you, if needed. Thousands walk the bridge on the Labor Day tradition. It's an awesome experience! Plan to park on either side and take it all in and take photos.
  3. This is a statement from last year on TurboTax: https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/home-ownership/can-you-claim-a-boat-or-rv-as-a-primary-residence/L0kjn8r1C
  4. The huge rises in cases/deaths have occurred after every holiday or summer vacations and Christmas was the biggest yet. That's why we're seeing the big drops at the end of February. The holidays are over. We have other holidays coming up and the rise will happen again. We are not experiencing herd immunity. That's going to be difficult to achieve this early or if at all. A LOT more need to be vaccinated. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/02/03/963373971/a-rocky-road-on-the-way-to-herd-immunity-for-covid-19
  5. This is why the wind turbines failed. If they can work in the Artic they certainly could have worked in Texas... if done right in the first place. https://www.newsweek.com/texas-wind-turbines-frozen-power-why-arctic-1570173
  6. We just had our 2nd vaccine today. No affects with either (so far for the 2nd one) ..... not even a sore arm.
  7. Had a horrible experience 50 yr. ago when our child was laying down for a nap in our tiny Scotty trailer with not much floor space. The heater was too close to the bed and her blanket fell on it. It must had just happened as we returned. There was a black burn mark on it so it would have gone up in flames shortly. Still sends chills!! Be careful with those heaters and as we have learned, turn them off if leaving the RV.
  8. Ugh! Take the time to spell it out likes we did years ago.
  9. The farthest has been approx. 20 mi. in on BLM land. We scouted a forest service road once with our Jeep to make sure it was OK... and it was. We read maps and use other sources beforehand. Much of our info was by word of mouth as we usually were around 4-wheeler folks which was a main reason for using these roads.... to explore further once we parked the RV. We found Benchmark atlases great because of their scale.
  10. We've encountered many campgrounds where one person would take care of multiple campgrounds.
  11. Everyone approaches boondocking differently. It just takes a lot of common sense. When we wanted to boondock in a certain area on public lands we just drove the road and plopped down on a flat place. We never left pavement and then encountered a problem. You can find suitable information by stopping at the ranger office or reading and word of mouth for good places. GPS satellite view helps nowadays but years ago this wasn't used. It's not difficult in the West. It worked out fine with our 40' MH. Again, common sense.
  12. Totally agree. Back in spring of last year we had a short lockdown and things were working. When lifted many people thought that was cause for celebration. People started socializing again. Masks weren't worn as faithfully. Then came the holidays and people vacationing. Beaches were packed. The political rallies didn't help and there were always spikes afterward in those states. Then the Sturgis motorcycle rally and South Dakota and the surrounding states blossomed with the virus. Then Thanksgiving, Christmas and people celebrating and flying on airplanes. Now we're past that rise and cases and deaths are coming down. Vaccines are becoming available and yet I hear people saying they're not getting them. Vaccines aren't going to help curb this for the mass population unless we all work together. Did you see photos of the Super Bowl partying? No masks? What do you think will come next? People will once again become lax and I fear the cases will rise again. People need to get serious about this. No one likes this and we're all getting tired of it. Folks need to stop thinking only about themselves and start caring about others.
  13. Covid deaths is now #1 https://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/slide/covid-19-now-leading-cause-of-death-in-the-united-states/
  14. packnrat: Your links don't have a definitive statement. For instance, I copied part of msdh's link: If the patient was a confirmed COVID-19 case, but COVID-19 contributed to but did not cause the death, such as stroke, how should the death certificate be completed? The Cause of Death in Part I should be stroke and COVID-19 should be listed in Part II. If the patient died of Acute Respiratory Failure and had COVID-19, what should the physician include as the Cause of Death? The physician should include both Acute Respiratory Failure and COVID-19 on separate lines in Part I Cause of Death. If the patient was a confirmed COVID-19 case, but the cause of death was not related to COVID-19 nor did COVID-19 contribute to the death, how should the physician complete the death certificate? If COVID-19 was unrelated to the cause of death and not a contributing factor, it should not be included in Part I or II of the death certificate. Some of the links were "I heard" "someone said" types of statements.
  15. You might want to look at LazyBoy as they carry wall huggers so you don't need a lot of space. They always have sales.
  16. The water quality in the Rio Grande isn't the best.... be careful. Rangers told us it's dangerous to eat any fish caught. We wouldn't fish there anyway! https://www.nps.gov/rigr/planyourvisit/riverwaterquality.htm
  17. Can you post credible links to your statements.... because I don't believe they're true?
  18. You wanted a study? Here are some but I doubt anything will convince you. You have your heels dug in, for sure! https://files.fast.ai/papers/masks_lit_review.pdf https://www.healthaffairs.org/doi/10.1377/hlthaff.2020.00818 https://www.researchgate.net/publication/342198360_Association_of_country-wide_coronavirus_mortality_with_demographics_testing_lockdowns_and_public_wearing_of_masks_Update_June_15_2020 https://www.cmaj.ca/content/192/15/E410
  19. Have you looked at these sites? http://www.uscampgrounds.info/ https://www.rv-camping.org/ http://www.uscampgrounds.info/ There are others for public parks if you do a Google. BTW: The book is very helpful for giving particulars and directions. It was always at our fingertips. I guess because we didn't have internet or a GPS when we began full-timing we got used to paper maps/books and now I still love them over a computer. A lot easier to use for us. A computer map just gets too cluttered.
  20. As far as jumping ahead so fast..... it may be because of Covid. Some on the list may be re-thinking it.... giving up RVing ... moving closer to family.
  21. Our advertising flyers, grocery ads, etc. are delivered by our postman. Walk into a post office to the private box area and you'll see those flyers tossed in the wastecan done by people when sorting their mail.
  22. Also keep in mind that travel trailers have the least storage space. 5th wheels have much better. The more slideouts you have the least storage. For weekenders this is no problem but if planning long-term it makes a difference.
  23. Lockdowns only work if people abide by them. Non-believers will continue to spread Covid.
  24. Welcome to the forum! You asked about the 'best' travel trailer. Did you mean the 'best' quality or the 'best size'? You don't need the best and most expensive quality if using it just for weekends or for a one or two-week vacation. For that just look at entry models. If you plan to go for more than a month at a time and do it often, you might want to consider a little better quality. For weekends you might want to begin looking at a size 26' to 30' or even smaller if you feel you are compatible enough to stay in close quarters, especially on a rainy weekend. If you are tall be sure to test for head room and bathroom/shower room for your head and body. Some can be very confining. The best thing to do is to visit nearby dealers and compare different ones for size and features. Size also depends on what you have to pull the trailer. You need to do it safely. Google for some articles on pulling trailers and how you'll need to measure the weight of the loaded trailer. Lots of good articles on YouTube. Look online at manufacturer's websites and study some floorplans to see what's available. You also might want to look at this consignment website https://www.pplmotorhomes.com/used-rvs-for-sale/travel-trailer?sortBy=price+desc as everything will have a floorplan to study and you'll get a feel for prices. You'll probably be able to pick out what manufacturers offer the most expensive trailers by studying the year and price and compare. A used trailer may be good for you. You certainly don't have to spend more for a new one. This website also has the option of looking at 5th wheel trailers, Class B, Class C and Class A. Explore it thoroughly. Good luck!
