  1. We've also gotten volunteer gigs with national and state parks by staying at one where we'd like to explore the area in depth and then just going to the volunteer coordinator and applying in person. We didn't get a position on the spot but one wanted us for the upcoming Fall season and another wanted us for the next summer season. Keep this option in mind as you're traveling and find a good place. Sometimes it's a plus to be able to talk to you in person.
  2. This states the reservation deposit is refundable: https://www.outdoorsy.com/help/what-is-the-cancellation-policy
  3. Strange that the link for my area didn't show any drug stores that I know give the vaccines because I got one yesterday. It only showed WalMart and Grocery pharmacies.
  4. Here's a 3-bunk - Jayco 29.5BHDS. Only one bath and small tanks for a big family - 43 gal fresh; 32 gal grey & black https://www.jayco.com/tools/archive/2020-eagle-ht-fifth-wheel/295bhok/ For the size you want I doubt you'll find a 2-bath; 3 bunk 5th wheel. Even if you found a 2-bath; you might not be able to use both showers at the same time and you'd need big holding tanks. Your design has no place to relax... just the table. What if you have days of rain? Or even one day of rain? Would you consider getting a roomy 30' and having the kids use a tent at your site for sleeping? Then you'd have lots of room inside for relaxing. Good luck!
  5. I agree with others. Streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime, etc. doesn't require you to record it for later viewing. It will always be there for whatever time you want to view it. All you do is click on your show and it will give you a choice of what Season and what Episode you want to watch. It's not something you have to watch on a certain day and time. We have a couple favorites with long Seasons and we've watched every Episode and have gone back to watching Season 1, Episode 1, etc. over again. Longmire is a favorite, for one. Mash is another that we've watched the Episodes over again. It had 11 Seasons. That's our 'good night story' - ending every day with it. I would guess your daughter could help you with additional questions.
  6. Here is an article that may steer you.... although it's a little outdated - talking about 2019 ACA enrollment. You may want to look into some of the articles given by Xscapers - the 'younger' group of Escapees. https://wheelingit.us/2018/11/02/pre-medicare-us-rvers-time-to-think-about-health-insurance-for-2019/ Sorry it went off-track for you... many posts do. Don't give up on us!!!
  7. Here are some informative articles on the flu, pneumonia and shingles vaccines: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2020/09/flu-coronavirus-same-time-frequently-asked-questions-twindemic-cvd/?cmpid=org=ngp::mc=crm-email::ngp::cmp=editorial::add=SpecialEdition_20200918&rid=ECC251AB09091E701A4918CF50EAB3DB https://www.cdc.gov/features/adult-pneumococcal/index.html https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/shingles/expert-answers/shingles-vaccine/faq-20057859
  8. You'll have to contact the proper authorities but I believe it is. I have heard of folks having work done in Nogales.
  9. Go to the Airbnb site and in the Search type in RV sites: https://www.airbnb.com/s/rv-sites/homes?refinementPaths[]=%2Fhomes&refinement_paths[]=%2Fhomes&source=structured_search_input_header&search_type=search_query
  10. Don't forget about the Escapee park in Deming. Good rates.
  11. I'd recommend: http://www.millerrvinsurance.com/ They're used to dealing with full-timers and you need full-timers insurance; not vacation.
  12. If the previous owner said he had to run the generator 'all day' to stay at WalMart that is not typical. He must have been in very hot weather and was running his air conditioner. Otherwise, he definitely wouldn't have to run it that much.
  13. Where is this dispersed camping? Who said generators are frowned upon? There are no 'rules' at dispersed camping spots and people do use generators. With colder days/nights coming up I would guess there will be generators run at that place. Not everyone has solar. If you're really concerned with your power, why not stay in the park itself? You'd have a better overall experience being able to spend time in the park and perhaps you could extend your time there for added benefit. There's a lovely campground close to Jackson, WY called Gros Ventre. It's dry camping but generators are allowed during specific times. It also has about 20 electric sites if you're fortunate to get one. They are snapped up in the morning. If you're set on staying where you planned try to park as far away from others as possible and feel free to run your generator, if necessary. Let them frown!! You're entitled to do so if it's truly a dispersed site. September to mid-October is a very popular time to visit Grand Teton Nat'l Park. The Aspen is in full color against the blue sky. We've been there quite a few times during that time and had clear Fall weather - no snow. Yes, The Rockies had a freak snowstorm about a week or two ago but since then they've had very nice weather.
  14. "Not knowing anyone" is not a good excuse! 😁 I don't know if you're an Escapee member or not but definitely join and become active in the Club. Stay at their parks. They are very reasonable in some good areas of the country. They are extremely friendly parks and you'll be welcomed. I'd highly recommend being at one around the holidays. It's home away from home. They usually have a park-wide holiday dinner and lots of activities. For the many options of their parks use the website then go to 'Benefits' > RV Parking> then you'll have choice of Escapees RV Parks, SKP Co Op Parks, Discount Park Directory and Overnight Parking (Days End - boondocking spots). It takes an effort to meet people but so worth it as a full-timer. Knowing that other full-timers are in your park gives you an instant connection. You can do things in the area together and go out to dinner with them. You can solve RVing problems together and learn of places to go. If a couple are in your park, invite them for happy hour outside. Soon you'll be exchanging emails and if, like us, will be meeting up with them as you travel if you're both in the same area. We have more life-time friends now than we ever living in a stick house. It was nothing for a dozen of us to meet up in a particular area and spend a week together. It's well worth the effort. Also plan to attend an Escapade. It a fun learning experience. Volunteer!
  15. She made a last request that they hold off until after the election to replace her. I wish they would honor her request. She was a great person all around.
  16. We used to have a small travel trailer with one battery and we were able to boondock a couple nights. We didn't have slides at that time. Do you really need to open the slides for one night? The awning is optional, also. The warm sun will feel good there. Your refrigerator and stove are on propane, aren't they? Use minimal lights. You won't need the Fantastic fan if going to the Tetons at this time of year. Use the water pump minimally. Enjoy!
  17. Are you somewhere that you could use solar lights? These would be better for your neighbor if coming home late. I know if I'm sleeping and there is a sudden flash of light I'd wake up. Motion lights could come on even if a animal walks across.
  18. I agree with others. Move around and try different states and different areas within the states; not necessarily in the same year. There are plenty of RV parks with various prices so it should be easy to find something in your price range. The farther you are from water or major attractions the cheaper the parks will be. Park with lots of activities will be more costly than a 'Plain Jane' park. Explore some of the review sites to get an idea of what people liked or didn't like about a particular parks. Note that some people may give the park a low rating because of poor internet, too many trees, not enough trees, muddy after rain, automatic sprinklers hitting the RV, etc. Some things may not bother you so don't always go with the ratings by a particular person. Read all the reviews on the park and you can get a better idea if the park is for you. Here's one we liked: https://www.campgroundreviews.com/
  19. Where did you find these.... love to send them to the kids!
  20. Arizona had a massive fire by a gender reveal party. An off-duty Border Patrol officer was charged. Note all the high grass around the explosive. Dumb. Dumb. https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/27/us/arizona-gender-reveal-party-sawmill-wildfire-trnd/index.html
  21. I agree.... we've had multiple surgeries, including cancer, and never paid anything with Medicare and our supplement with under $9,000/yr cost. We were also able to carry our previous employers' insurance but declined because of the cost.
  22. Sorry, I'm not in the area right now so don't know the circumstances. Perhaps call an agency? We've gone in prime time and always had to walk a good distance.
  23. Dental in Mexico is considered a necessity and you are allowed to cross to have it done. https://sanidentalgroup.com/ https://mx.usembassy.gov/travel-restrictions-fact-sheet/ All you have to do is to give them a call. Most of the dentists have a U.S. ph. # so no charge to do so.
  24. Agreed. One needs to compare plans every year. It's very easy to do on the Medicare web site. Just plug in your meds and a list will come up with different plans to compare. Companies will drop med coverage for certain drugs. Humana dropped a very expensive one for us last year so we did have to 'limp along' until we could get a new plan that covered it. Instead of using Humana for it we used GoodRX and saved a lot but it was still high. This year we switched to a different plan (WellCare) and the drug is covered and lowered by hundreds of dollars. The plan is $13.10/m and some of our meds are free. It's been excellent for us this year. Hope they continue covering that expensive drug. You definitely have to go by what drugs you're taking in choosing plans. https://www.goodrx.com/?gclid=COCUktPKx7oCFeo9QgodrVAAMg
