  1. Here's an updated list of what's open in the national parks: https://www.nationalparkstraveler.org/2020/06/reopening-national-park-system-whats-open?utm_source=National+Parks+Traveler+Week+in+Review%2C+June+9&utm_campaign=National+Parks+Traveler+Weekly+Review&utm_medium=email
  2. Look into modifications needed for European campgrounds. So you're shipping a truck and RV to Europe? Would have probably been cheaper to buy one over there and sell it before returning to the U.S.
  3. You're going to have a hard time finding a place where it's cold but not freezing overnight. Utah and Idaho are out for sure. Arizona is your best bet. Even southern New Mexico has freezing nights - been there. Arizona has very nice state parks and also has BLM boondocking land - even in Tucson. https://www.campendium.com/snyder-hill Truthfully, I think you should just concentrate on a warm place for winter if you're concerned about freezing nights.
  4. Tucson, AZ is the place for you. Nice winter temps and an easy drive up Mt. Lemmon for snow and even skiing. Or... stay in Cottonwood, AZ and you can do a quick drive to Flagstaff for skiing. Or... stay on the northern edge of Albuquerque and an easy drive to Santa Fe for skiing. We've done that. Or... stay in Cedar City, UT and drive to Brian Head for skiing and snow play.
  5. Your tank sizes are strange. 43 fresh, 76 grey, 38 black? How would you fill the 76 grey with only 43 fresh to work with? Just curious on why the mfg. did that. Anyway..... we had 105 fresh, 65 grey, 45 black and we could last 2 weeks. We didn't carry any extra water. We used the tank water for drinking and cooking. We always had plenty of room in the black so the dish water was used for flushing. When it was time to dump the grey the black was nearly full, also - they way it should be for a good flow. We had solar. I would think you could go a week. Come back and let us know how it went.
  6. Sorry, I'm still not clear what you're trying to say. You start off two times about "a member". That's OK..... I'll move on....
  7. Just curious.... do you have them stored in a climate-controlled place to preserve them?
  8. OP: Your post doesn't make sense. Who's writing who? You need to do quotes better.
  9. I'd recommend you begin by browsing the Full-time section of this forum. You'll find discussion on the different states for domicile. It just depends on your circumstances and also if you're on Medicare or not. If not, Florida seems to be the best for medical insurance. You don't have to do a yearly inspection if you don't enter Texas. Even so, the inspection is very simple and doesn't take long at all. It's not a big deal. As far as what type & the cheapest insurance ... that, too, depends on many circumstances. No one could tell you what your insurance will cost. It depends on only you. . . age, driving record, where you're domiciled, year of RV, your credit score, what insurance you choose, etc, etc. You just need to shop around for price. The type of RV? That also just depends on you. What are your needs? Are you single or will there be two of you? Will you have another vehicle in addition to the RV? We began with a travel trailer, then a 5th wheel and settled on a motorhome. We got hooked on 4-wheeling and wanted the Jeep. We hated driving the big truck around all the time and it wouldn't take us on the kinds of backcountry we wanted to explore. We definitely didn't want another small car in addition to a truck. We didn't want to drive separately and that's added cost. The motorhome and Jeep worked well for us. Read all you can on the subject and you'll learn lots. Good luck with your plans!
  10. I see they have not added a new gazetteer for Southern Appalachians. They used to do only western states. Nice! This shows the various kinds of maps they publish. Love them!! https://www.benchmarkmaps.com/
  11. It's a flat easy drive. Enjoy the coolness!!
  12. Wow! This is a 2-year-old post with 75 replies. Lots of good suggestions!
  13. RE: Backing up..... practice, practice. Go to a large parking lot off hours and try to fit it inbetween the lines keeping in mind that RV sites would most likely be wider so you have some leeway. Many campgrounds have pull-through sites. There are RV Driving Schools: https://www.rvschool.com/ A rear camera would help. You can do it!! There are many older singles out there managing - even women!! πŸ˜„
  14. You have had a rough 7 years and I feel for you. I hope things can improve. Have you looked into Medicaid for your MIL to solve the financial aspect of a nursing home? Does your husband realize what it would entail to bring her home? If she's happy where she's at I think you should investigate Medicaid. Also, does she need a nursing home? Is she bed-ridden? If not, you might want to look into a Memory Care facility. They are more experienced with dealing with Alzheimers and have great activities geared just for them. She may be happier in a place like that rather than a nursing home. https://www.medicareinteractive.org/get-answers/cost-saving-programs-for-people-with-medicare/medicare-and-medicaid/medicaid-eligibility-for-medicare-beneficiaries-who-need-long-term-care-in-a-nursing-home
  15. Here's a good list: Nat'l Parks/Monuments Open as of 6/2
  16. You need to check out teaching requirements that would be needed. I would guess each state has different ones. It sounds like a fantastic idea though. Good luck. As to a monthly RV park rate it depends on many things such as location and amenities. For a basic in a small town I would say $350 and up. You're on the Escapees site and they have very reasonable parks to stay. https://www.escapees.com/benefits/rv-parking/
  17. Here's another link on hybrids: https://campaddict.com/hybrid-travel-trailers/ ..... and this shows floorplans of various manufacturers: https://www.beyondthetent.com/hybrid-travel-trailers/
  18. Good catch, Ray. I knew that about Yellowstone. Sandsys's comment threw me. I replied too fast before thinking.... again. 😁All the other campgrounds in Yellowstone are full of tent campers. It's just Fishing Bridge campground that has issues. It's a popular grizzly area.
  19. That's us, also. I think the social media sites have made people angry, combative and rude. These RV forums are bad enough! 😁 Our kids and grandkids have no problem emailing, texting or calling us. That's enough for us. Same as with our friends.
  20. Yes, with the tent portion closed you'd be allowed at Yellowstone. If you have more people staying in it that you would need to open it for sleeping all the national parks have other campgrounds just outside the gate of the park that you'd be able to stay. I also agree to get the double axel, if possible. That's a very good design for one person and the 163 would be best if you have another person. RVs get tight fast in bad weather! I'm impressed by the fresh water and grey and black tank capacity in such a small RV. Also, they have a 'dry' bath. Some RVs have a 'wet' bath (no enlosed shower) and everything, indeed, gets wet. You have to basically dry the whole bathroom with towels. I think you're on the right track with this style. Hopefully, you can go to dealers that carry various manufactures so you can compare. You'll have a great time traveling.
  21. Don't forget the site you're on..... Escapees has a discount program, also!
  22. I take it that the dishpan is already being washed with the soap in there. Then we use that water to flush the toilet with instead of letting it drain in the gray tank.... saves space in the grey when dry camping and saves fresh water wasted by flushing the toilet with fresh.
  23. You can also wash dishes in a small amount of water in a dishpan - much less than 4 gallons. We did it!
  24. Oops. Keep it! Benchmark is only published for the western states perhaps because that's where the majority of public land is.
  25. If you're talking about Delorme's, they aren't as good for detail as Benchmark unless they've changed. They have tiny lines for backroads and aren't always marked with road number.
