  1. We tried a Dometic 320 and it was JUNK.  With proper water flow and pressure, it would not sweep the front of the bowl.  I would repairing my old Thetford and returning the JUNK.

At least on the Thetford, you can get repair parts and they are not subject to leaks.  Read up on the 320 problems before you jump in.

We made one trip with my 1-ton single tire RAM when we got our old 5er.  It was a 17k gross toy hauler.  Only moderate grades on that trip, but I was so white knuckled driving is scared my wife.

My one-ton is an older Cummins-RAM with aftermarket exhaust brake and high strength exhaust springs and a tuned 12-valve engine.  She pulled the trailer just fine, but stopping or any type of emergency maneuvering was sketchy at best.

We skipped ahead directly to an HDT for fa fraction of the money for a new (or even newer used) dually.  Best decision we ever made.

Not every wants or needs a HDT.  Just use some common sense and make sure the truck is within ratings to tow the trailer you want.

  3. That will be quiet an undertaking for you and I hope you hold up to the experience.  A 5er and a boat will require coordination to get everything on the move.  many states do not allow towing anything behind a trailer, so check this out.  If you have a separate chase vehicle t, someone will need to drive it and the boat.

Many campsites will require extra $$$ for the extra vehicle and the boat, so be sure and plan on this.

Here's to fair roads and a tailwind.

  4. I keep a Viair 12 volt compressor on board and air up my own tires.  It is too much trouble to take the RV somewhere else to get some air.

You did not say size RV you had, so we do not know what tire pressure you might need.  Most tire stores can only air up to 80 psig unless you go to a commercial tire dealer.

  5. We had a Carriage trailer that had Shaw laminated wood and never again will I have a Shaw floor.  The top layer chipped and looked horrible.  Constantly having to touch up the floor to look halfway decent.

When we hosted parks , we always carried extra trash bags in our park tours .

When we saw that there was no trash bag being used , we'd always offer a bag or two free to the site occupants .

And , we'd make sure everyone knew where the dumpster(s) were located .

Almost everyone got the message .

We used that tactic as well.  Some would pick up the trash, others simply took the bag and left the trash.  In one state park, I asked the people to please pick up the kids candy and potato chip wrappers before they blew over to the neighbors.  She informed me that picking up the trash was the rangers job.  I let the office know and the park policeman visited them to inform them of the policy.  They left the site dirty anyway...I guess, just to show him.

There is no limit to some peoples stupidity and ignorance.

  7. It is saddening at how little so many campers think of the environment and other campers now.  To day while walking my dog, I found one huge pile of dog poop and orange peels scattered about.  It is not hard to pick up the poop and the orange peel is not eaten by the critters.

We campground hosted for many years and finally reached the point of I am not pick up others trash.  They use the fire ring as a garbage pit for unused food, cigarette butts and dirty diapers.  They do not supervise the kids and do not teach them how to put trash in a trash can.

At one park that had the day use area totally trashed on Saturday and Sunday, I suggest to the parm manager that we not pick up the trash in this area for a month and see if ay of the people would get disgusted and  complain or stop coming to the park. An alternate solution might be to collect all of the trash left on the ground and in fire rings for a month and put it on display at the entrance with a sign telling the story of the trash.

We buy our cat's and our daughter buys he dogs heart worm medicine from a mail order company in Australia, about 1/3-1/2 the price vs. in the US where it is a prescription. I spoke to the company and it is the exact same, including packaging.

Takes abut 10 days to get, Covid has stretched it out a bit.

We used to buy our dogs heart worm medicine and flea and tick from source in Australia.  A few years ago, the place was sold to a Chinese group and then the products started coming out of China.  We went back to paying more to get a product not from China.  Double check where the products are made.

  9. As I have gotten older I am finding it easier to write a check for certain things than attempt to do more than I should and maybe have a medical bill.  Having done most of the work myself over the past years, I still have to oversee any work done on the RV or the truck.

Just moving in....you need to slow down and pace your chores.

  10. All electric vehicles do not help the environment unless they can be recharged by  a non-fossil fuel, renewable energy source.  Most of the power production in the US is from fossil fuel plants.  In addition, the battery packs on the electric vehicles consume a lot of energy and resources to produce.  Then there is the problem of disposal of the spent battery packs.

Some less than knowledgeable politicians have been fed lobbyist money to promote the electric vehicles. Remember that these politicians are mostly lawyer and not scientist.  We need to step up the renewable energy source power production well before the all sign on to electric vehicles.

  11. One TV station in Houston used to give dry and wet bulb temperatures but stopped.  People complained that it was too confusing and too lazy to learn anything new.  They only want the heat index or wind chill number and then they do not understand them.

I see the climate is definitely changing, never mind what the politicians try to say.  We need to make adjustments in our overall life styles to adapt to the changes where we can.

I grew up in central, west and southeast Texas.  The farmers knew to come in and get in the shade, take a nap on the porch during the heat of the day, start early, and then maybe go back out to finish up late in the day.  Modern day folks do not understand working around the heat, not during the heat.

  12. Texas used to have good roads, but not so much now.  They are lacking in maintenance.

Recently back through Oklahoma and the roads are worse than ever.  Hwy 69 will destroy a rig, hwy 412 is not good, the Indian Nation Turnpike has good and bad sections.  Overall I give Oklahoma an F.

Louisiana IS pretty bad and I'd give them no more than a D-.

Overall, the road and bridges in the US are in deplorable shape.

  13. Volunteering varies a lot depending on the facility and the managers.  Activities and duties vary greatly across the parks in the same system.

We have volunteered at 2 state parks in Texas that we will never volunteer for again as long as they have the current managers.  Overall, we are most satisficed with the National Wildlife Refuges.  There are several pages on Facebook that you can ask about experiences at various locations.

We have found a few shorter term positions at places the volunteers had to leave due to health or family reasons and the park will happily accept a shorter term volunteer.

  14. Whether in a convection or gas oven in an RV, we have found the for baking many things, you have to stop and rotate the items about 1/2 way through the cycle to get a more even product.  In the convection, for round items we can use the turntable to even out the baking.
