  1. I cannot believe the number of people wanting to bury their heads in the sand and go back to life as usual.  I think we will be seeing a prime example of Darwin's Theory.  The weak and stupid will be the first to go and thin the herd.

Why do these people think nothing will happen to them?  I sure don't want their sickness and I sure do not want to be responsible for getting some one else sick.

Use some common sense and social distance.  My wife and I will be wearing the mask, keeping our distance, forgoing any travel and wash our hands a lot.  We are over 70 and reasonably good health and want to stay that way.

  2. Very sound advice is to educate yourself on the towing nomenclature and tow ratings.  99% of the truck and RV dealers sales people know nothing about towing.  Their idea of towing is heading to the lake with the bass boat loaded with a cooler full of beer.

There is lots of truth in the old adage....you can tell when a salesman is not telling the truth......His lips are moving.  His job is to sell, not educate you.

Do not listen to the folks telling  you that I pull my 44 ft toyhauler with my F250 just fine.  All you need is to add air bags....ha ha ha.

What good is a floorplan if the RV is going to fall apart around it?   Quality is what you want to look for first; then choose the floorplan from what they have to offer.

This is spot on.  Why sacrifice quality for the sake of a floor plan.  Buy a quality unit and you will love to enjoy the floor plan when it is not falling apart around you.  Also, very difficult to enjoy your perfect floorplan when it is setting in the dealers shop for repairs most of the year.

  4. The Tahoe is really a passenger vehicle in stature.  It is a high center of gravity and a short wheelbase vehicle,  It will be more prone to sway than a longer and lower vehicle.

My personal opinion is I would not tow anything over about 26 feet with that if you want to be comfortable on longer drives.  With these type vehicles, length is an important factor as is weight.  Also, look at the GM towing guide and see what the maximum frontal area is for the ratings.  8 ft high and say 9 ft tall is 72 sq.ft. frontal area.

  5. I figured there was a baffle to divide supply from return.  On the HitchHiker forum, a fellow posted a photo of the install with the unit tipped on edge.  Monday, I'll call AirExcel about the control board and thermostat.  Hopefully, the control board will be compatible with the current thermostat and the other unit.

This is the second unit in the two zone set up.  So it is the slave unit.  All the wiring goes to the rear unit, then to the front unit.

I'll try to get some photos for future reference.  I found a mobile tech that will install it.  I am just to old to tackle this in the south Texas heat.  With the virus, we are hanging out here until we feel safe to travel.

  6. We have a 2013 HitchHiker Champagne with Coleman Polar Mach units which are completely mounted from the roof, ie there is no ceiling assembly ( it is a ducted unit) inside the RV.

I have replace many Coleman and Dometic units with the interior ceiling assembly.  No having had a Coleman Mach 8 plus apart, how is the match up with the existing ducting?

Hope someone has had experience with this swap out.

  7. We had two Avion trailers and both had a unique fix for the problem of shifting clothes.  They had a padded bar that would swing down and latch to hold the coat hanger on the rod.

Since we have added an eye hook at each end of the closet, mounted slightly behind the center of the clothes rod.  We stretch a bungee cord over the clothes to secure them.

  8. Our daughter lives outside of Houston and last week their neighbor had to make an emergency trip back to Louisiana.  They reside in Texas and have Texas tags.  On the way back from Louisiana, they had to stop at the border and since they had been in Louisiana, the troopers took down their drivers license information and they were told to self quarantine at home and they were subject to checks from the local authorities that they were complying and subject to fines and jail time if they did not.

  9. I considered a Chromebook to replace my 6 year old laptop, but after looking at them, I went with a HP with 8GB ram and 256GB SSD.  For my use, it is plenty of computer and I can used an external thumb drive or HDD for additional storage.

I like the added flexibility of the MS operating system, and I run Chrome for a browser.

Can you give us an example of a truck that's only available in 4wd?  Other than some special edition, I believe all are offered in 2wd.  And the off road packages are optional, extra cost too.

4x4 is 99% i=of what the dealers are ordering for stock,  You have to order a 2 wheel drive.

Do you guys have brakes on the little trailer you haul the SXS on?

My new trailer has a factory hitch with a 5k load limit. I'm thinking about pulling a car on a dolly. But, my tow dolly doesn't have brakes. I did some research and found that the dollies you rent form U haul don't have breaks either.

The towed car and dolly are subject to trailer brake requirements like ant trailer.  What will you do if the trailer comes loose and there is not a trailer break away set up.  Yes it needs brakes,
