  1. Kirk's list is a good starting point.  Max over length range from 55' to 75' with the most common being 65'.  That is front bumper to the rear most on the trailer.

We are 58' nose to tail and have not had any issue with our 40' 5th wheel.

The problems is with the longer trailers, you will be limited on parks that you can fit into.  National Parks and older parks are generally the issue.  You can usually find a commercial park that can take the longer rig.

  2. Cost depends on the area of the country and if you get any discounts.  It is cheaper to stay by the week or month.  You will see cost ranging from $25 per night to $75 per night.  It all depends on where you are and what you are looking for ....rustic to resort.

Or do you want to do some boondocking.

  3. My wife and I are full time RVers and neither take a restricted drug, so you think .... NO PROBLEM.  No so easy.  We are on a UHC plan with Part D coverage with Optum RX for mail order.

Optum, must hire rejected RV service techs as employees.  These clowns will ship to the wrong address easily 30% of the time.  We call and give the agent an address where we will be in about 2 weeks so we can get our 3 month supply refills.  Next thing we are getting a note from Escapees mail service or some place we were at 2 years ago.  Back on the phone for an hour or so to get the meds sent to the correct address.  This has been going on for 6 years now and not getting better.

We like out UHC supplement plan, and would love a better Plan D, but UHC is tied to OPtum.

  4. If you do not use the tow bar pin locks, you do need to check the pins after every stop that you were away from the RV and dinghy.  You have some less than intelligent folks that like to pull the pins as they think it is funny.

I agree with Kirk in that you do want to be able to get the dinghy unhitch and back in an emergency.

  5. TPMS saved me ruining a tire on the dually.  Picked up a large nail and the tire alarm went off after about 15 minutes on the road.  30 minutes earlier the tires were fine.  Pulled over and outside tire was flat as the TPMS had said,  Put on the spare and continued.

If the TPMS had not alarmed, I would have continued with a flat and an over loaded tire until it failed.  They are well worth the money.  I have had two other TPMS, but the TST, Truck Systems Technologies is the best.

The TPMS will not prevent a blow out if you hit something.

We did the same, setting that fund aside for the day we needed to exit the lifestyle and that allowed us to buy our present home. We just didn't want the tie to any location that a rental property would have been, but a rental can be a good investment in the right area. For us it worked but who is to say what is best for everyone?

Kirk, we set aside the money from the house sale as well.  We were just outside of NW Houston and we had no intention of living in Houston again.

We had a rental house once and it was a pain and was so glad to finally sell it.

You just have to do what is best for you.

  7. I will have to dig for the information.  I found an article on line that was the basis of the ferrite chokes.  There were some big chokes on the main harness on the passenger side by the valve covers and a couple of branches.

It dropped the noise from an S8 down to an S, but you still hear the popping in the background.
