  1. I don't have mine yet, but can hardly wait. 😊
  2. That is true in all cases that I am aware of.
  3. So when did this letter arrive? Since the money didn't start arriving until April 14 or 15, it has not been two weeks. 😏
  4. No problem, as we all had to learn sometime. All of the controls of an RV refrigerator require 12V-DC power in order to operate. If you connect the plug to 120V-AC power it will not solve that problem. The only thing that ever gets power from that cord is the electric heater that can supply heat to the boiler in place of using propane. Look at the installation instructions in the service manual that you downloaded and it should tell you where the positive and negative sides must be connected.
  5. Amen! We are still hoping to get to spend a couple of weeks up in Kansas at our relative's farm.
  6. With the yellow residue, probably not. That yellow stuff is the zinc chromate from the refrigerant that has leaked out. They use a mixture of distilled water, ammonia, and the chromate as corrosion preventive. Most likely your cooling system has already leaked and is dry. That update is probably the one that was added several years ago to prevent the boiler from overheating and causing a fire. Am I correct that you just bought this used refrigerator? I hope that you didn't pay much for it.
  7. Welcome to the Escapee fourms! I would start by removing the fuse that supplies the system in order to get the coach batteries installed and everything else working. Since your RV has been in storage, the first thing that I would do is to examine the wire harness to the controls for signs of mouse damage. They may have shorted some wires together.
  8. Keep in mind that an absorption refrigerator operates by convection flow so natural movement of the refrigerant due to heating and cooling is critical to efficient operation. The RV refrigerator is designed to operate inside of a space of specific dimensions in order to direct the air movement to the locations where it is needed and to also keep air movement away from other locations. This type of refrigerator not only requires enough cooling in order to operate properly, excessive cooling will also prevent proper operation. That is the reason that the specs list a minimum ambient temperature for proper operation.
  9. Welcome to the Escapee forums, Jos Chad has given you an excellent answer, but I would add just one additional point. With a 2007 tow vehicle, mechanical condition is everything and the closer you work to the vehicle's maximum tow rating the more critical that condition becomes. It is also important to consider how much you intend to tow the RV. If you only make short trips the comfort level while towing is less issue than if you expect to travel long days and vast distances. We are happy to have you here with us, so do contribute to any forum and visit often.
  10. A class A can go pretty much anywhere that a class C can, except that you could get a class A that is longer than any class C. We dove our gasoline powered class A, towing a Honda CRV over most of the routes of the USA. It was 36' long. I have driven it along the west coast (US101) and over the Rocky Mountains via several different routes. When I drove that road it was before we owned an RV and too long ago to have much memory of it, but I highly doubt that you can find a road that a class C can travel but not a class A of similar length.
  11. If you visit the site of Bryant RV you can download a copy of the service manual, Dometic 12 Series and 52 Series Service manual. Lemp also gave good advice as you could operate it for a short time to test it without any sort of cabinet, but for proper cooling the air flow must be directed.
  12. Where did you stay in JC? My parents lived there for 40 years, after they left the farm where i grew up about 25 miles east.
  13. As you begin to shop for an RV, do not overlook the class A because the cost for similar size is not a lot different and they have far more storage. Storage is a major issue when you live in an RV and carry everything you own with you. Having driven both, it takes a bit more adjustment to drive the class A but once you get used to the mental part I consider the class A as easy if not easier to drive. You would be wise to spend some time at the largest RV show in your area, looking at everything they have just to familiarize yourself with all of the possibilities. As you do this, take the time to pannamine doing the things that each of you do daily, with particular attention to those things you do at the same time. That will give you a much better feel for the space requirements that you need. How long do you have until you can retire?
  14. Welcome to the Escapee forums! We are happy to have you with us. Are we reading this correctly, that you plan to live in your RV while continuing to work your job in Nashville each day and not travel? TN is one of the few states that accepts a mail forwarding service address for driver's license and vehicle registration, unless something has changed recently. If I am correct about your plan, then I suggest that the first step is to locate an RV park that you wish to live in and which gives monthly rates and allows permanent residents. A good place to start is by looking at Campground Reviews to see what is available in your area. Once you have some ideas about possible parks, visit them to check out the facilities and ask in the office about what you wish to do. As Twotoes stated, some parks will allow you to get mail in the park and use that address, thus avoiding the need for a mail forwarding service. You will also need to get RV insurance that has a fulltimer clause on it and not all insurance companies write that type of insurance. i suggest that you post additional information here so that we can give more specific responses.
  15. This is difficult to understand. If I understand, USPS increased the number of managers who do not deliver any mail while decreasing the number of mail carriers, and by doing so, they now deliver mail on more routes with fewer total employees and less overtime?
  16. Where should the email be sent? There is no email address............ 🤔
  17. Be careful and make sure of just what you get there also. I used to be a Coach Net customer but changed to the Safe-Ride program to Escapees after friends or ours had Coach Net refuse to cover towing of their dualy truck when it broke down because the fifth wheel was not attached at the time. They home base in Crossville, TN and had driven the truck to Nashville and broke down in route home. That happened about 8 months ago. They were told that they had the wrong policy to cover the truck alone.
  18. But no post office box rentals, which they did have back in the 1950's.
  19. In areas where enforcement of residency and vehicle registration laws tend to be enforced, it is more common for the enforcement to come from code enforcement than it is from an LEO. When the issue is by an LEO it will likely be a sheriff's officer or some other local agency and that too is more likely to be initiated by code enforcement. Extended stay parks would be much more likely to be noticed. There are 3 such cases that I have direct knowledge of. The first was in WY when county tax officers became aware of a large number of RVs with out of state license plates being left for extended periods in the campground of a membership ranch. The county tax appraisers came to the ranch. The second was in CA where some county officer (not sure what agency) came through regularly taking photographs of the RVs in the campground. It was an extended stay park and management told us who it was and why. The third incident was in north TX where a COE ranger was commuting from OK where her husband lived on a ranch, to work for the COE in TX and only went home on weekends. A local sheriff's deputy who lived near the park noticed her OK license plates and twice gave her warnings, pointing out that TX law requires a full-time employed worker who stays in the state 4+ days a week for longer than 6 months, to register their car in TX. The third time he did write her a ticket. (In anger she told everyone who would listen how evil TX is!)
  20. Then we do agree. I probably should have said the same for urban routes. Years ago the post office would commission some business in the smaller towns to be able to provide rental postal boxes, to accept mail and to sell postage, as well as most other services that they provide. A relative of mine had such a store in the early 50's and that commission also helped to keep that little store open in the community where one would not otherwise have existed. There is no reason they could not replace many small post offices in that way and save money doing so, still providing the services.
  21. We lived on a rural route for the past 8 years and see absolutely no reason for routine mail, including the "last mile" deliveries would need daily delivery. We are only talking about 1 day. Of course, closing small town post offices and cutting deliveries on rural routes would also mean fewer postal employees, which could cause pressure on Congress again via the employee organizations. EDIT: The same action for urban routes would make this a very significant savings.
  22. Wyoming was a major part of our plans too, as we lived in Cheyenne for 18 years and were part of advance staff for Escapade and expected to be there for about 2 weeks. We have a grandson in Bozeman MT that we had planned to visit after Escapade as well as spending some time in Yellowstone Park, since we have not been there if more than 10 years. If things went well the plan was to head west from MT. We should all know a lot more about how the future will go by the end of May. As some states begin to loosen restrictions, that should pretty quickly demonstrate if the COVID will flare again or if this is all going to flare up again. Since we are in that age group who are most at risk, I doubt that we will be able to do much traveling this year. So much depends on how much people continue to follow the guidelines.
  23. From 2020Census.gov............
  24. I wonder if Jaowens is going to come back to see what answers they got?
