  1. Hans45, welcome to the forums! This is as good a place as any for the discussion. Since I have not traveled as a single in many years, that isn't a subject that I have given much thought to, but it is a valid one.I think that many couples have such conversations but for singles it is a different issue.
  2. Welcome to the Escapee forums! Here in TX we have several different toll authorities, each with their own toll tags. They pretty much all accept each other's tags and the state also issues one that is good on all TX toll roads and also on the Kansas Turnpike. I have the one issued by north TX (NTTA) as it is accepted in all of TX as well as both Oklahoma and Kansas. As far as I know, none of those states accept the tag of any other states, but I'm not sure. Since I have not been on the toll roads of other states with tolls recently, do toll authorities who do not honor the tag on a vehicle just treat it as having no toll tag? I would expect that but am not sure.
  3. I have pretty much stopped going to Flying J/Pilot since they not only became Good Sam exclusive, but they also voided the loyalty card that I had used for more than 10 years. And since TSD o only works for diesel from the truck lanes I just my 2% rebate credit card for both gasoline and diesel and can get mine anywhere. And I have not been to Camping World in several years either.
  4. That is a good question. I did get one from my insurance company that offers phone or internet claim service and one from a grocery loyalty card offering online shopping, but so far I think that those two are the only ones from businesses. I have also had informational emails from the VA and from Medicare suggesting ways to avoid getting it.
  5. I just looked and was surprised, but I did find some "no name" TP products available. I also found some from Angel Soft Professional series in a 60 roll case. They also have ShaiTaiYang Toilet Paper Ultra Strong, in a 10 roll case. Many stores in the Dallas area are doing that too while others are completely out. The city & county have shut down all events that would gather large crowds.
  6. The main advantage of AGM batteries is the lack of maintenance. The disadvantage is the cost. As to the issue of deal breaking, it is much the same as the hitch that you wanted. How important is it to you and what cost to make the change yourself? You might be able to work something to change them for you at a reduced cost.
  7. All 3 of our sons work in the software industry. One has been working from home for quite some time but the other two were both notified yesterday to do so until further notice. One of the two told yesterday is a developer for the Army recruiting command.
  8. Sorry that you feel that way. No criticism was intended, only a correction of information. The information that AK will give any senior a discount is quite valid as most of the states that I'm aware of only give senior discounts to residents of their state. Thank you for pointing that out.
  9. While I have no experience with insuring a storage unit contents in recent years, our son does have a storage unit with contents insured above the usual $5000 limit. I asked who his coverage is with and it is with Snap N Sure which was suggested by the operator of the storage unit his things are stored in.
  10. You are correct. It is AR for Arkansas. 😁
  11. We used to say that also, but I suspect that you have not changed primary care physicians recently. Our experience was in Dallas, TX and the suburbs, and we have Medicare and a plan G supplement. It began about Sept. of 2019 and we finally resolved it in only 2 months. Many doctors are just not accepting new patients at all and even more do not accept new Medicare patients.
  12. That isn't exactly true. AR, like several other states does give a discount to all US citizens who are 62 or older and the America the Beautiful, senior pass is one of the forms of ID which they accept.
  13. Here is a link to information about state park passes, by state.
  14. We recently moved within TX and had difficulties in finding a doctor who would accept us also. The problem that we had was to find one who was experienced who would accept more Medicare patients. We were never asked to fill out an application though, it was all by phone. Most of the doctors we contacted asked what type of insurance we have before making an appointment. We are in the Dallas area and we finally got into one that we wanted by using a connection who knew the doctor.
  15. Just checked it out and they sure are proud of them!
  16. That Tesla charging station is one that we drive by very frequently due to location. It has 8 charging stations and it has been there for several years. At first it was very rare to see anyone using one of the stations but that has slowly begun to increase and I once saw 5 chargers in use at the same time, and 2 or 3 is getting common. The folks in the bakery told me that Tesla asked to put it there because there were no charging stations between Dallas and Shreveport. For me, a hybrid or even one of the more efficient gasoline cars makes more sense at this time.
  17. We left the fulltime lifestyle several years ago after living in a 36' class A and did pretty much what you have in mind. We moved to a 20' travel trailer that weighs in at 4000# GVWR and stated out towing with an SUV rated for towing 5000#. While it did the job safely we soon learned that it was somewhat tiring to drive and the fuel consumption was poor. We now tow with a crew-cab truck that is rated 3/4 ton and it is much better. I think that you would be much happier if you went up a step in tow truck.
  18. Welcome to the Escapee forums! I strongly agree with what the two previous posts have said. An America the Beautiful Senior Pass is by far the most economical purchase for RV folks or anyone who visits our federal parks. The cost is $80 for a lifetime pass and if your budget is limited they will even allow you to buy the $20 annual version 3 times and then trade them and $20 more for the lifetime one. Passport America is a discount card that is good for half price nights in the member parks. In many cases there are restrictions but most parks are really quite a bargain. The Happy Camper Club is much the same and I have found that most parks in one are also in the other, but not 100%. I have not joined the second group but do know people who have both. Both of these charge $44/year so it is pretty easy to recover the cost. If you have not done so, I suggest that you consider a membership in the Escapees RV Club as many of us use their mail service for our legal domicile as well as the RV park discounts for spending time as we travel. We never did join any of the campground groups like "Thousand Trails" or "Coast to Coast" because the don't fit our lifestyle. There are members in these forums who are very happy with them and they can save one money if you use them enough but there is an upfront cost. We were part of a pretty large group of Escapees who did volunteer work as we traveled in places that supplied us a full hookup campsite in return for a few days of work each week. If you are on a tight budget, this might be something to consider. We enjoyed that so much that even now that we are back off of the road and traveling part-time we still do some of it.
  19. The closing process is usually very much like that in buying a car. In most cases the salesperson is finished at that point and the "F&I" person takes over. (Finance & Insurance) Frequently, the F&I person is commissioned for "upselling" customers on things like fabric protectors, insurance, and financing and sometimes other things as well. If there are things that we promised but not yet completed they do need to be noted and signed by a company officer as sales promises that were not written can be difficult or impossible to get completed. I have many times had the F&I person attempt to sell additional things but only once have I walked away from a deal over promises that were made by sales but not completed prior to the sale or put into writing.
  20. Welcome to the forums! If the office there in the park doesn't know the answer, try calling the Escapee Club Business phone in Livingston. (936)327-8873
  21. As two of those in the higher risk age group, we are doing the preventive measures that have been suggested, such as more frequent hand washing and avoiding large crowds in confined spaces, but we are not alarmist nor over reacting. Much of what has been suggested is actually quite simple to do and not invasive. We always wear a seatbelt when driving or riding in a car and I see these actions as little different.
  22. Welcome to the Escapee forums. We are here to help and will do our best. That Dinosaur circuit board means that it has been replaced as the original would have been from Atwood. If you visit the website of Bryant RV Service you can download a copy of the Atwood water heater service manual that may help. If you visit the Dinosaur Electronics site you can identify which circuit board you have and download a copy of the instructions that come with it. The water heater control circuit is operated by 12V-DC electricity from the battery/converter in your RV and only the electric heater uses 120V-AC which comes from the circuit breaker. All of the Dinosaur circuit boards for water heaters that I am familiar with have had an LED to indicate if there is 12V power so check that first. Without 12V the water heater will not work. Some of then also have a fuse that if open will not allow operation. It is possible that your water heater is one of the propane only models that has been modified to add a 120V heating element but if it is it will probably also have a separate switch that didn't come from Atwood to turn it on and off. If you can, verify that there is 12V-DC power to the circuit board and also that 120V is available. To be sure that all air is out of your propane lines, light the cook stove and allow it to burn for several minutes. If you can get a little more information there is probably one of us who can come up with some ideas of what may be your problem.
  23. In the Dallas area there are several USACE lakes that have turned one or more campgrounds/parks over to nearby cities to operate and in most cases expand as city parks.
  24. You must be nearly as old as I am! I too grew up using the 110 number but after 40 years of electrical working I got used to the "new" voltage.
