palamine
Made it to Estes park this morning. Got a nice camping spot at Elk Meadow campground with good tv, internet and phone. Nice day here today too, about 73 and partly sunny right now. Looking at a rocky mountain vista out the front window. They are having a big Scottish festival this weekend, and we came past the fairgrounds where it is being held on the way in. Big tents all over the place and it looks like there is a lot of fun to be had. Sister and BIL will be coming up tomorrow to stay in the bus with us Friday night so we can all got to the parade Saturday morning. Bag pipes all over the place. Woo! Hoo! SteveBag pipes make me cry - Go figure. Everytime! IYQ
Was busy much of the day primarily just messing around with every thing I picked up. This evening the neighbor across the street invited me to come over and join them at their campfire. I did and the neighbors next to me came over there too. Lots of talk and joking. A very nice group. I went for two walks around the park today. I'm hoping to get my stamina built up again so that I don't get out of breath every time I exert myself a little. They have Scottish games on Grandfather mountain in NC were I lived. The traffic gets so bad that it takes an hour to get through the little town of Linville. As long as I lived there I never went to the games. I guess that happens to Local residence where ever they live. IYQ
It got down to 38 last night so I guess it's a good thing I only have one more day here. How ever I learned something new about the rules for the New Mexico park system. The rule says that if you stay 14 consecutive days in any one park you must leave for 6 days before returning to that same park. The Ranger told me that there is no rule that says I can't stay less than 14 days then leave for one day then return to start the count all over again. So that tells me I don,'t have to run all over northern NM next year to stay cool. I'll stay 12 or 13 days, pull out and dump then return the next day for another 12 or 13 days. I chatted with my neighbors around their campfire again tonight. They sure are nice people. Earlier I took a cowboy friend to the Brewery to show him where it is. Maybe he'll spend more time out there and leave all the cowgirls for me LOL. We have a similar rule here but we really have no way of tracking the time any one camper has been in the park if they come on a first come first served basis. If we like you, you can stay as long as you want. If we don't it's out after 14 days. steved44
We have had a great time up here at Estes Park Colorado at the Celtic festival. I never did see Mike & Julie, but we are meeting them tomorrow morning at Horse tooth reservoir, near Fort Collins. It will be great to see them again. The last day of the festival (today), it rained pretty hard, and we were tired anyway, so we just layed around, watched tennis and generally took it easy. We went up into Rocky Mountain National Park and wheezed around at 12,000 feet for a while and took pictures of some big horn sheep. Then right downtown here at the golf course, Elk were everywhere!! We watched a couple of golfers try and put the 18th green surrounded by elk. Great place to visit. We stayed at Elk Meadow RV park, and it is a pretty good one. Heated pool and hot tub, spaces are good sized, and good wifi if you need it. Heading down (it's 7800 feet here) tomorrow to where there is air again. I used to ski in this altitude years back, but I guess we've been living at sea level too long. ha ha. IYQ
I fueled the truck and came back to the park and got all hooked up so I'm ready to pull out in the morning. Then spent the evening with my neighbors around their campfire. I've maid a lot of good friends here and have mixed emotions about leaving them all behind. I hope I meet more nice people where I'm going. I'm only going down to Las Vegas, NM. I've been there many times before but the people just don't get out and mix like they do here. IYQ
I'm at, Storrie Lake State Park near Las Vegas NM tonight. It's a little warmer here but not bad. It hit 83 degrees today but the rest of the week is supposed to be in the 70's. The first thing I did was go to Wally World and stock up on all the things I couldn't get in Angel Fire or Eagle Nest. Now I'll gain some more belly which I sure don't need. Striper
Yep now is a good time to be right here in the PNW. Temperature yesterday was mid 60's with lots of SUN. Toni, you and Doug need to plan on staying here at least till the 6th of Oct. The Kinetic Parade and Races, water trials, are on the 5th of October in Pt Townsend. Always a fun time.
