The Class-less Class

Recommended Posts

It has rained hard here at Cochiti Lake for the last four days, it has kept us holed up in the trailer most of the time. We are going to Santa Fe today just to get out. Just heard the news about the Ranch SKP coop flooding, it is our fav. SKP park and it looks like it will be a long time recovering, our prayers are with the folks that live there. Hope all of our classmates are safe and happy.

We've had some pretty nice and pretty hot weather. However, got to admit even the temperature we had a couple days ago that was pushing 100 degrees wasn't as sticky as the temperature I was in in Texas last week. We're starting to get early morning fog but it's nice later in the day. In a little over a month we'll be on our way south. Fall is definitely in the air.

Dave went off to visit with friends this evening wearing a long-sleeve shirt! Looks like it is going to be that kind of week this coming week. Helping motivate me to get my van ready for departure.

Babble babble babble I think this rain has succeeded in driving me crazy. The cowboy that was up in Eagle Nest when I was there asked me to take him to town this morning. Anything is good if it gets me out of the rig for a while. But that's about all I could find to do today Go away rain. 4 days is enough in a row.

We got enough sun today to get my batteries up to 98% but its raining again now. The dam at the reservoir broke and flooded part of the city. When I got up this morning and looked out the window I could see water over in the direction of the reservoir. I though that was odd because I had never noticed it before. Later the camp host told me about the dam. This afternoon I went to Wally World to look at spotter scopes. They didn't have a single one. I guess I'll have to shop on the internet. The weather liar says we may get some sun tomorrow. I sure hope he is right for once in his life.

We had a great time meeting up with Mike & Julie at Horsetooth reservoir (Fort Collins, Co), and spending a few days together. We had been at Estes Park, and I'm glad we made it out of there before all the roads washed out, because we would have been trapped up there for no telling how long. It was nice to see Mike & Julie again, and I hope everyone's ears burned because we sure talked about everyone! The weather, however didn't cooperate, and it rained most of the time they were here. We did finally have a great spaghetti dinner, and a campfire afterwards, so we managed to have a fine old time and even enjoyed a few Irish cranberry juices ;)! They headed south Saturday, because they needed to be near Denver and we weren't sure if the roads were going to be open with the threat of more rain. They were right because it's pouring right now, and I would have not liked to be breaking camp in this mess. We managed to have dinner with my sister and her husband last night, but it was a little tricky to get to the restaurant with so many roads closed. The gps doesn't have a (go around water) setting on it, but we finally made it and had a nice meal. It rained all the way back to the bus last night and hasn't stopped yet. These folks sure don't need any more of it around here that's for sure. I think there's only 2 rigs in the whole campground, and it's a soggy mess, but at least we are on high ground, so it looks like a day for a good book. If it rains much more, I'm getting the boat out and inflating it. Steve

Our LAST day of work for the season. Hurrah. Tomorrow we go visit Doug's Mom in Salmon Arm and Tuesday we pull the peg out of the class map and head for Vancouver. 2 weeks of visiting; family, doctors, hairdressers etc. I am sure we won't recognize ourselves soon. Time will be our own, totally our own.

We had several storms today with abundant rain. I noticed a wet spot on the rug under my table. Further investigation revealed wetness in one of the compartments in my slid out that uses the dinette bench for it's space. Rain is predicted for the next 10 days. So I guess I'll have to head south tomorrow or Tuesday where sun is predicted to get it dried out. I lowered the tongue jack a little to make the water run off the other end of the slid. I hope it temporarily corrects the problem until I can get it dried out and find and repair the leak. The seal looks OK and I couldn't see any cracks in the caulk but I've been noticing that the rain that puddles in my slid topper runs down that side right over the compartment door. So I hope my scheme works.

We did get a little sun today but the humidity was very high so I didn't get much drying done. So I hooked up and am ready to head South in the morning. I hope I get things dried out before the ply board separates. New slides are not in the budget for this year. "Budget" isn't that what they call those little blue, green or yellow birds?

I managed to get that pesky pin of mine to move this morning. Dang thing finally caught up with me here at Cliffside RV Park on the local Navy Base. Sitting here having coffee looking out at Lopez and San Juan Islands out there in the distance, and of course the beach and the water. Wasn't a big move, just 8 miles but it feels like a different world out here. For those Military Retired folks out there, if your ever in this neck of the woods, this is a GREAT facility.

Actually I'm out here hiding from them crazy Canucks that just got done working and are heading south now.:ph34r:

After having our fill of the Hershey RV show we have finally moved down into Virginia. Sitting just outside Luray now until Thursday. Cloudy and cool but from reading about the stuff going on elsewhere we feel pretty darn lucky.

Glad everyone is safe and sound, even if you are wet.

Well I got to Caballo. NM State Park. A pleasant drive with no problems. It's SUNNY. The weather liar said the high here today would be 83. That was at the same time his own report said it was 84 at the time. Funny that all three of my thermometers say it's 88 and just a while ago they were reading 90. My old trouble of only getting a trickle of water out of the taps has returned after replacing the pump and valves. That pretty well proves my original theory that calcium balls have clogged the tube that goes to the pump input inside of the fresh tank. When I get rested up I'll crank up the air compressor and blow it back in the tank from the pump input. It would be a temporary fix but may last till I get to Deming. If it isn't one thing going wrong it's another.

Another warm day and sunny. The Wet compartment is almost completely dry. One more day and I think I can reload it and close it up. Now that the monsoon season is about over it might be a while before I know for sure if I have a leak or the slide was not all the way out. i may go on down to Deming and get s full hookup site so I can have my favorite RV service pull my annual maintenance and check a few of these latest problems. Full hookup there only cost me $6. Plus electric per day on a monthly basis.

The temperature is supposed to "soar" into the 80's tomorrow and that'll probably be the last of temperatures in that range until next year for this area. Our replacement awning arrived today so once we get the installation of it done, we'll really be close to departure time. Justin's delayed homecoming put a damper on October but that probably means once those Canadians get here we'll be heading to Tillamook and their cheese factory a little sooner than planned. Of course, that also means we'll have another problem in a few weeks when it gets rescheduled but what is life on the road without problems? We actually wouldn't have any idea. Sounds like we're all getting ready to head south. That's probably a good thing.

We will be picking up sticks today and move from Luray Virginia just a short ways to Charlottesville. We want to check out the Montacello (spelling). Probably only stay there for 3 days and then move east towards Williamsburg or Virginia Beach.

Tina & Jeff,

Lynn & I really enjoyed seeing you two again and catching up on our travels! Made it to Exeter, NH and will be moving tomorrow towards Brookline for a few before checking out the Cape Cod area. We have a site here that's right on a small river and are virtually by ourselves in this end of the campground. You guys have a great tour and looking forward to talking to you guys about it in Florida!
