The Class-less Class

We will be picking up sticks today and move from Luray Virginia just a short ways to Charlottesville. We want to check out the Montacello (spelling). Probably only stay there for 3 days and then move east towards Williamsburg or Virginia Beach.

Dave, How's the weather down there in VA? Starting to cool down up here in NH and the leaves are turning a bit. This is our first time out East this time of the year and wondering when we should hit certain states. Are you having any trouble getting a campsite?

We visited Jefferson's place a few years back and I'm sure you'll find it very interesting!

Well it's 92 degrees out side and only 74 mile on down to Deming. So, I think I'll hook up in the morning while its cool and go on down there. I'm fairly cool as long as I stay inside with the fan on but it's way too hot to take my afternoon Steve. Full hook ups sound pretty good to me right now. Besides I know a bunch of cowgirls down there and the're scarce as hens teeth here. I'm getting low on fruit and veggies also and it's 25 miles into Wally World in T or C (Truth or Consequences) so I might as well head for Deming.

It has been in the low 80's, high 70's the last few days. It did get down in the high 40's a couple nights. So not bad. This is our first time out east this time of year as well.

NO trouble with campsites but where we are now has a music festival next weekend and is booked full so you never know.

I like the sound of that report. It's been beautiful weather the past few days here in NH and some more to come but, I'm sure that will change soon! Tryin' to locate a site near West Point, NY for first week in Oct. Should be great leaf viewing there along the Hudson.

We were talking to Tina & Jeff that we both seem to just miss the festivals whenever we move our pin. Perhaps that can be a good thing!

You guys will probably get some better colors on your way down than we will unless we hold up someplace for a little longer. But now it turns out we need to be in the Orlando area with the first couple weeks on Nov. so that might hamper our luck of seeing much color. Have fun up there!!

Roger, we found a neat place on the Hudson at Schuylerville last year at this time.. It's a RV/marina called the Schuylerville yacht basin. One of the last fueling places on the Hudson, so he stays open a little longer than most. Just south and east of Saratoga. We stayed a week there checking out the foliage and battle sites. We were able to put our little boat in and cruise the Hudson. There is a lock on the Champlain canal just about a mile north of the marina. Steve

Ok, I'm way off base (not awake yet)! You said West Point, that's way down near NYC, I was thinking the Fort Ticonderoga area.

Croton on the Hudson (Croton point park) is a park that a lot of people have used in that area. (about 12 miles from West Point). We haven't been there, but the reviews are good. We actually stayed at Liberty Harbor Park in Jersey across from Manhattan, but we were visiting Carol's old friends in NYC and it was closer for that. Steve

I'm down in Deming tonight. Guess What, It's raining. I took 3 cowgirls out to dinner tonight. I got to get back in practice you know. It was a little warm when I first got here this morning but it didn't take me long to get the A/C cranked up. I've been busy most of the day chatting with old friends and hugging the cowgirls. The place was fuller than I thought it would be. They had to move several reservations around to get me my favorite site for the next 4 to 6 weeks but all came out good. I've got an appointment for my trailer next Wednesday for all my annual maintenance plus drain and flush the fresh water tank and replace the little spigot that they have to drain it with. It works so hard I'm afraid I'll bust it when I try to open it. And by taking in out to put a new one in the drain hole will be much larger and maybe pass some of the crud that keeps blocking the water supply. With all the activity today I'll bet I sleep tonight.

Thanks for the tip Steve...will definitely look into that CG!

Haven't been back to the USMA since we dropped my older brother off there back in 1970. He made it through but, what a struggle! I'll never forget him driving the family station wagon and pulling a pop up camper through NYC while my Dad navigated amongst all the taxi's. When he finally drove out of there his shirt was soaked with sweat...we had to look like the Clampetts!

That sounds like a great trip Roger. We survived the "white knuckle" trip into the city but just barely! When we checked into Liberty Harbor, there was a guy there in a 5th wheel who had turned on the wrong road and wound up in Manhattan! It took him about 3 hours, police intervention, and a lot of finger waving for him to finally get out of there. He was pretty frazzled when I talked to him. :o Sometimes this retirement is hard work. Ha Ha  Steve

Manhattan !!! Oh crap!! Now that would make for a story around the campfire. One I hope to never be telling.

We toured the Jefferson Monticello yesterday and we will hit the road in the morning towards Williamsburg Va.

I think a lady is coming by today to buy our Ekorness recliner. Have to start getting rid of a couple things getting ready for when we pick up our new home in a few weeks.

I didn't even start my truck today. This morning I took my walk then came back to the trailer and mucked out enough crud off the floor so that I don't bump my head on the ceiling then gadded with my friends most of the remaining day. Then played 31 this evening. It's a rough life but someone has to live it.

We vow to have a day like that tomorrow. No driving, no shopping, just laundry which is just steps away. We are still recovering. We have energy for things in the morning but by lunchtime we are pooped.

We are on the move. Left Virginia yesterday and are heading toward Kansas. We stopped last night at Tamarack Travel Center and just wanted everyone to know that if you are traveling west on 64, this stop in Beckley West Virginia was the quietest place we have ever spent the night. No one here with us.

Will try to get a quick note out while we have a connection this morning. Hello, and best wishes to all!

To the Weavers... we are so sorry that we didn't look at the map a few days back... went right through Monticello! Would have been nice to meet. We are near Natural Bridges and headed to Capitol Reef tomorrow (Monday) for a week or so before going on to Moab. Your plans? Hope we can connect down the road. We are tdhomestead on the class map. Travel well!

I went to Hatch, NM today with a couple of cowgirls to a music even at the BBQ place over there. The music was so loud I can still hear it trying to bash my brains out. I don't think I'll be going to Hatch again. This evening we sat at the gals rig next door and chatted among friends. A much more pleasant doings.

I didn't do much today except get groceries and run around town trying to find some type of material to shade my batteries with that is impervious to rain and the desert sun. So far all I've found is cement board. I'm sure there is some sort of recycled plastic board that is a lot lighter and easier to work with. I made the last one out of marine ply board and it didn't last a year before it curled up and separated.

They had a pot luck tonight over in the rec-hall. I went over after they had served to chat with everyone.

Yikes! Just realized it was 2 years ago yesterday that we sold the house and became "homeless". Wow time flies when you're having fun.

We are on our east coast tour and they keep us moving. Two nights in Bar Harbor, Me., two in Wells, Me. and today moving to Foxboro, Ma. for the next 5 nights. Lots to see and do. Be safe everyone. Later.

And may all your cowgirls be sexy.

Speaking of which I took two of them out to dinner at the truck stop that use to be the Savoy. Petro took it over last year. At first the restaurant went down hill to the point that I quit going out there. They have really cleaned up their act. It's pretty good now. Someone has done a good job of re-training the help. They have excellent service now.

Tomorrow morning I have an appointment to have my trailer worked on. I didn't get the trailer ready to hookup this evening. So, I'll be out there at first light tomorrow getting ready to go. Ugh.
