sandsys
The article says it will travel about 100 miles on a full charge but it gives you no idea how long it has to sit in full sun to get that charge. Still, it's a step in the right direction. Lou Schneider
The article says the motorhome carries 228 amp-hours of battery, but since they didn't give the voltage of the battery pack it's not possible to know the battery capacity or how long it takes for the solar panels to recharge it. However, the solar array can generate "up to 3000 watts" of solar power. That's equivalent to 4 horsepower. How far or how fast would your motorhome go if you replaced it's engine with a lawnmower motor? jcussen
https://www.tesla.com/semi The only problem is the charging stations, doubt if rv parks would want to, or could, provide them. But sure like the 60 mph up a 5% grade. Edited April 5, 2018 by jcussen Quote Foretravel 40ft tag 500hp Cummins ISM 1455 watts on the roof, 600 a/h's lithium in the basement. hamrs_62
you will never eliminate the need for oil everything needs oil, show me one vehicle that is electric that does not use oil, one windmill, one solar farm Quote Mark & Annette
jcussen
If a 400 volt battery pack like most electric vehicles, 228 ah's is about 90 kw. About the same as the bigger Tesla packs, except in a heaver non aerodynamic body. With solar panels on the sides, doubt you could even get a steady 1500 watts for charging. Believe recharging a depleted battery with only solar would take weeks under normal conditions.. You would need 5 or 600 kw's to be semi practical, and still would have to plug in somewhere.
