Dollytrolley
So......Vegas Teacher sent me a bribe of..........free lunch IF I would scare him with a few my "stone-age-experiences"........ So Saturday I crawled off the side of Last Chance Peak cowgirl camp and wondered into the big city of P a h r u m p so that we could chow down on cheep Mex chow at EL Jaffe's. Vegas flyer drove Teach in and we had a good time and Teach listen intently to my tale of trying to teach a Phd prof of advanced teaching methods to learn to fly a Hot Air Balloon and it did not turn out well......Teach was very kind with his advice and he laid the blame on the Phd prof when he said...."well you know, teachers are the worst students", of course VT is so kind he did not say what really needed to be said, and that is that ........NO one should do what I do and only try about 5 % of what I say so........ I retired early as a Balloon teach..... I had come down a bit hard on VT in the past on the forum when he talked about a few bob-tail adventures that I thought might be a bit over his skill levels or maybe worse. I told a few grim truck stories from stone-age-logging days when a few trucks and folks in the trucks had BAD endings.........I was not really trying to scare him as much as illustrating the forces involved when heavy trucks start doing things we don't like them to do like....rolling over.....bad juju. Vegas Flyer helped out in the bad-truck-stories when he told about a couple of truck crashes that he had investigated. We chatted about the forum and a few things about the forum that I will likely need to fix with one or two of my Executive-Orders next time I get time away from my stable duties. We pretty much solved many of the problems that vex many forum members so at the end of the lunch the HDT RV world was a much better place and most of us might be able to sleep better. We elected Chad a nicest guy....... We thought that perhaps Big5er might be drinking a bit too much Diet Dr Pepper since its been some time since he has really flamed anyone on the forum...... Overall I was mightily impressed with Vegas Teacher in that he really likes his HDT and wants to get it and himself in the "grove" and Flyer is a nice steady mentor for VT. I hope I scared VT just enough to be darn careful because it's important to keep the ole truck right side up and not bump into things. VT seems to be a moderate fan of some of my telling of my "stone-age-experiences" however meeting a crazy old geezer like me is always a let down in person.....but VT was gracious and tolerated and humored me well...........AND he is a man of his word.......he DID buy me lunch..... Drive on..........(Next lunch is on me ......VT & VF) 97 Freightshaker Century Cummins M11-370 / 1350 /10 spd / 3:08 /tandem/ 20ft Garage/ 30 ft Curtis Dune toybox with a removable horse-haul-module to transport Dolly-The-Painthorse to horse camps and trail heads all over the Western U S

Vegas Teacher
To add a few things to Dolly Trolley's story....... Trolley it was a pleasure to meet you and put a name with a face. Yes I hope to keep that 780 right side up. We did not finish the project, I stayed at Flyer's house over night and Flyer had business in town so he drove me back the next day. Truck is still in his front yard, I F@#$#% hate rust, air bags and shocks. I think that will be my next dissertation defense for a doctorate. So Trolley told us stories and I laughed at many of them. Here is the kicker that I discussed with him and I think a lot of us on the forum really need to get an understanding of..................... Only 30% of what is said is actually conveyed in meaning by the words we use and the other 70% comes from voice tone, facial expressions and other body language. In my classroom I can say a whole lot from just a look I shoot out at the class, and it get quiet immediately. This is also quite apparent when we watch the W.S.O.P. on T.V. those guys playing poker wear hats glasses hoods scarves and all kinds of things that cover up body movement so you can't see much of anything. Others try to not move any muscles or do anything different. I used to watch a show called Lie to Me, it was just a T.V. show / series but it showed some interesting things about body language and facial expressions............................................ So where am I going with this. Trolley was a gentleman and apologized for being a little hard on me at times and me not wanting to take what he said wrong and I think this is what a lot of us who post on the forum and then read what people post back is we are only reading the words, we can't see or hear them. I told Trolley I did not take anything he said personally and that was one of the reasons I wanted to meet him in person. Him just like Phil - Big5'er, if all you do is read what they post you can get the wrong impression of them and who they are. When you talk to them in person and get to know them you see they are great people. They know there stuff through a lifetime of dealing with the machines and the background they have. As Trolley said Vegas Flyer has been a great Mentor to me. He is the old bull I am the young bull and there is a story to go along with it, but I can't write it out word for word o this forum. So I think sometimes before we shoot off a response we just need to say what did this person really mean and should I get overly emotional about it. When a lot of us have 30K and above wrapped up in tractor and trailer plus "Toad" of some type it is hard not to but we need to slow down and think too. Later, Vegas Teacher P.S. I could not do anything without the help of a great friend like Flyer - John is a really good person and a great friend.

dblr
VT well said and yes I think sometimes people take responses a bit to personal, I try to read and absorb what people post to learn from mistakes they might have already done trying to do what we are trying to do now. There is a TON of informative people here that really do want to help, I have met some and all they have been is helpful. 2017 River Stone Legacy 38MB 2001 T2000 Kenworth 2009 Smart Passion ET Junior hitch

I will also agree with this. It has been a while since Phil has gotten worked up about anything. He must be relaxing now that his retirement is creeping up on him. 5 hours ago, Vegas Teacher said: Only 30% of what is said is actually conveyed in meaning by the words we use and the other 70% comes from voice tone, facial expressions and other body language. It can definitely be hard to convey intent in written word on a forum at times. I never take anything anyone says on the forum personally. I just try to add information when I can and feel like I have some knowledge that will be useful. I have met a number of forum members in person over the years and all of them have been great. Idaho in July for a week then a 2 week trip planned for Black Hills SD, Moab, Utah, Lake Powell, AZ in Aug/Sept... Trying to get a few things squared away on the truck and then its prep the trailer.
