runaway parents
Need to extend the frame rails on the Volvo to install bed . Looking for two pieces that are 10 ft long . Where on the west coast is there a good source for them . Or maybe somebody out there in the forum world might have some laying around that they want to get rid of? sclord2002
Try PG Adams company. They make truck frames and extensions. I have no idea of what their pricing is like. Hewhoknowslittle
I was told that truck frames stood up to 100,000 pounds PSI and mild steel is 30,000 pounds when they stretch the frame on my Freightliner we used frame rails from an old truck just because of this. I don’t know this to be a fact but my builder says it is so that’s what we used.

I work construction and they say a good building starts with a good foundation. No need going threw all the trouble in building a nice new bed and not have a decent frame to set it on. Purple Tractor
The company that bent the rails for me build Road Runner Hay Squeezes, and the guy that helped with the addition to the frame has stretched numerous trucks for logging...... I sure hope I never treat my Volvo as bad as either of those things get treated. That being said, I tried finding used truck frame to match up but none of the wrecking yards had any, they said that trucks with usable frames were getting rebuilt and sold in Mexico. 2008 Volvo 670,D13, 13 speed,2018 Montana 3210MS

noteven
An OEM published body builders manual is a good reference for frame work such as drilling and welding. "Are we there yet?" asked no motorcycle rider, ever.
Jack Mayer
A scrap yard is a good choice. That will by far be the cheapest. We bend our own to size, but you need at least a 350 ton brake to do over 6' lengths. a 10' length is going to be difficult unless you find someone with the right brake. Plus you have to get the radius die exactly correct or you will have issues. You better know what you are doing if you break your own. We extend the rails by welding extension on, then sister in an overlap. Any frame shop can do this work. It varies wildly in cost. Mostly depending on regional differences, the shops setup time, and the length. Jack & Danielle Mayer #60376 Lifetime Member Living on the road since 2000PLEASE no PM's. GeorgiaHybrid
Any large structural steel fabricator will have a brake press capable of bending what you need. Even a small shop should have a 8 to 10 foot brake capable of bending 1/2" plate. Larger shops should be able to handle widths to 12 feet and up to 1" in thickness or more. One thing to remember, yes, you do need to match the bend of the existing frame but the inside radius should be at least 2x the plate thickness to prevent plate cracking. 2023 Thor Magnitude XG32
tyates007
Pedersen Brothers in Bellingham Wa did 2 eight foot lengths for me. PG Adams were very willing to work what I needed but Freight was a killer as they were to long to be shipped small package. Pedersen’s called Kenworth to get frame specs and then had me match the radius using a socket. Worked great for mine. Matches very well. These guys do log trucks. runaway parents
Hey guys thanks for the great info .Now I have a lot options to chose from. Hopefully this winter I can get this project finished. I have been looking at a new bed siting in the drive way since May. Camping season kind of got in the way .Now all I have to do is mount it on the truck. Jack I think four five foot pieces would work. I have to extend the frame aprox three to five ft then I am going to turn it down ward to fit the beaver tail that is built into the bed .got any ideas what this would cost?
