SuiteSuccess
My fuel cap chain ( the one that you dangle the cap from) snapped and half fell back into the tank. I have two more days of long drives before I can try fishing it out. Darryl&Rita
Nope. The pick-up is well off the bottom of the tank, for a reason. I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again. 2000 Kenworth T 2000 w/N-14 and 10 speed Gen1 Autoshift, deck built by Star Fabrication 2006 smart fourtwo cdi cabriolet 2007 32.5' Fleetwood QuantumPlease e-mail us here. No issues, it will slide around the bottom. the pickup is about an inch off the bottom. Jim's Adventures Old Spacecraft.... Ronbo
I would surprise me if the pump would suck it off the bottom. At least it will cling to a magnet and you have a nice big hole to work with. adept99
Might want to be prepared with new fuel filters. Take a look & see how dirty the bottom of the tank is - if the black stuff moves when you stir it, watch out! Wrknrvr
Magnet should get it. That is if the tank is aluminum. Just go fishing Vern
Darryl&Rita
Delayed thought: the ball chains are Stainless steel, so barely magnetic, but the wire cross piece is spring steel. Too many miles with it buzzing about on the bottom of an Aluminum tank won't end happy. Exile
I recommend a Three jaw flgexible grabber thingie. Use mine even after i broke one finger. Example below. Better than a zebco 33 and a treble hook i think 😀 https://www.lowes.com/pd/General-Tools-Instruments-Lighted-Mechanical-Pick-Up/3139045?cm_mmc=SCE_PLA-_-ToolsAndHardware-_-SpecialtyHandTools-_-3139045:General_Tools_&_Instruments&CAWELAID=&kpid=3139045&CAGPSPN=pla&store_code=3306&k_clickID=3c6ef601-9e18-4935-b473-b3be11190414&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx9idgPOc3QIVD4hpCh06Awl4EAQYAiABEgKx2fD_BwE 98 379 with 12.7 DD LG Dodge w/5.9 CTD Chrome habit I’m trying to kick. SuiteSuccess
I have a magnet on an extendable arm but it won’t make it to the front of the tank where I think it ended up. I could see the rear of the tank with a flashlight and it wasn’t there. My wife has some quarter sized magnets she used for quilting that I was thinking of drilling a hole through and attaching to a coat hanger. Anything in the tank that would be ruined by a magnet ie sensor, float etc? 2006 Volvo 780 "Hoss" Volvo D12, 465hp, 1650 ft/lbs tq., ultrashift Bed Build by "JW Morgan's Custom Welding" 2017 DRV 39DBRS3 2013 Smart Passion Coupe "Itty Bitty" "Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. HERO Maker
There is a 6 footer there, but it might not fit the opening of your tank. Rocky & Sheri Rhoades '01 Volvo 770 2016 DRV Mobile Suites, HoustonHERO Makers Ministry
Darryl&Rita
Drag a strong magnet across the bottom of the tank, from the outside. Get it where you can see it. Now go fishing. The wire is spring steel, and the chain might even be slightly magnetic. Pat & Pete
No need to get fancy. A long enough piece of bailing wire with a hook bent in the end will do the trick . Goes around , comes around .

Anything in the tank that would be ruined by a magnet ie sensor, float etc? I checked my chain definatle not SS and definitely magnetic. You could get a donut shaped magnet and few feet of chain hitch it to the cap and drop it in. Keep checking it untill the broken pice is attached. If they never come together you probably dont have to worry anyway. It's probably not the only thing in there.
