usbusin
I know some on this forum have been following Elio Motors and may have even put down a deposit. All I read on their web page blog is "puff" pieces, no real info on getting into production. Are they getting any closer to production? 2001 Freightliner FL70, Cat 3126b 300hp, 860 lb/ft, 6 speed manual Eaton/Fuller Motorhome body by Transport Designs (37 ft overall) Motorhome Specs and Pictures Our Music Ministry

RandyA
This is not intended to be a political statement. Elio's problems are an excellent example of why there are so few new start-up transportation products being introduced in America. Excessive start-up cost, legal fees, product liability insurance, EPA, OSHA, NHTSA, CARB, etc. It takes time and a lot of money just to complete compliance with these regulations even if you have a viable product. Yes, the above are there for our protection but they can be major roadblocks for a small visionary company with insufficient capital to quickly overcome. In a "we want it now" society where consumers expect things to happen fast, this is perceived as being unacceptable. Many have lost faith and interest in Elio due to extended delays in production. I hope Elio will eventually succeed, but unfortunately, at this time it does not look very promising. Just my humble opinion...... usbusin
Hmmm, sounds like a real scam. How long does this go on without him being investigated? 2001 Freightliner FL70, Cat 3126b 300hp, 860 lb/ft, 6 speed manual Eaton/Fuller Motorhome body by Transport Designs (37 ft overall) Motorhome Specs and Pictures Our Music Ministry
RandyA
I have nothing invested in this company. But, I watch their progress, or lack of it, with great interest. Before we label their efforts as a scam, please review the definition of a scam: A fraudulent scheme performed by a dishonest individual, group, or company in an attempt to obtain money or something else of value. Scams traditionally resided in confidence tricks, where an individual would misrepresent themselves as someone with skill or authority, i.e. a doctor, lawyer, investor. It does not appear that Elio is taking money under false pretenses for personal gain. They have invested considerable dollars in the infrastructure to bring their product to fruition. Unfortunately, the obstacles they have encountered have overwhelmed their vision. Elon Musk, with millions more in cash for investment, endured similar delays and setbacks. It hasn't been that long ago when we saw GM and Chrysler fall into the tank. We lost Saturn, Pontiac, Viper and a significant number of RV marques. What new companies that build American made transportation products (other than Tesla) have made it into production in the past 20 years? I do feel sympathy for those that have probably lost their deposit but IMHO Elio is not an intentional scam. The lost confidence and resultant anger toward the company will most likely be the final nail in their coffin. I did put a little money in to reserve my place in line at the $7300 price. Will gladly pay that amount if they are successful in mass production. Doubt they will sell many at an additional cost if they renig on that deal, but maybe they will. Have been holding off replacing my current 4 wheel vehicle, but it doesn't look like I will have an Elio any time soon so I am starting to look at another. usbusin
Should not have used the word "scam". beyerjf
My son has a reservation, could try to sell it on Ebay. And I own 100 shares of the company, needless to say it wasn't the best investment I ever made. There was no mal intent on the part of The Elio corporation or it's founder. When the car's idea was first hatched about 10 years ago, gasoline was at record highs, over $4 a gallon, the average price of a new car was over $25k, so the idea made some sense. But a lot has changed in the ensuing period. Gasoline is down around $2.50 and stable enough for Ford to eviscerate their lineup of cars and concentrate on SUV's. And Electric anything has caught the imagination of the demographic that is a natural for this car. And they are not interested in anything that involves hydrocarbons, no matter how efficient. Uber, ride sharing and shared ownership is being talked about seriously, something that wasn't on the horizon 10 years ago. Time has passed them by.
