noteven
The video posted the other day of the circus coming to town with the trucks pulling a couple or three full trailers revived an old bright idea we had back when we hauled bikes in a cargo trailer behind a pickup with a truck camper. What if a guy had a full trailer, wheels at the corners, with ramp doors in the sides, junk storage above the front axle, for hauling motorcycles and hosses angle tied? Now that we have trailer electric ABS. Nice behind a truck and camper, motorhome, super C, bus, or fifth wheel trailer. Or it could be the living quarters vs a giant travel trailer configuration, lower to the ground, or enormous pass through basement like a bus or coach. Easy to hitch up. Stable. It would be a consumer size version of the next one thousand UPS, FedEx, Dillard’s, etc etc full trailer rigs you are about to meet on the Interstate. So the configuration does work, physics wise. Back one summer when I pulled a wagon hauling aggregate it was fun to do a forth and back turn with the truck and drive off the opposite way and have a look at your trailer tail lights on the way by. As wrknrvr would say Just a thought. "Are we there yet?" asked no motorcycle rider, ever.
Darryl&Rita
What are you using in your coffee this morning? Can you imagine the Happy Hour entertainment with people trying to back that in? The idea itself has merit, but the market size is minuscule. I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again. 2000 Kenworth T 2000 w/N-14 and 10 speed Gen1 Autoshift, deck built by Star Fabrication 2006 smart fourtwo cdi cabriolet 2007 32.5' Fleetwood QuantumPlease e-mail us here. noteven
No plan to market. Coffee - if I told you... Happy hour would be hilarious. “Hon? Was I supposed to tell you to stop before you backed over the hitch?” "Are we there yet?" asked no motorcycle rider, ever.

So the configuration does work, physics wise. New Zealand allows all kinds of truck/trailer combos so they're in a good position to judge the relative stability of each type. Basically, any combination that uses a steerable dolly to couple a full trailer either to a straight truck or to another trailer has built-in stability problems including "crack the whip" and yaw. The dolly allows the trailer to yaw (wiggle back and forth) instead of tracking true behind the tow vehicle while also removing feedback about what the trailer is doing from the driver. A CDL driver is trained to recognize these problems and deal with them, a random RVer pulling a full trailer behind a motorhome or a 5th wheel trailer, maybe not so much. The same combos using 5th wheel hitches at the connection points (semi-trailer and B-train doubles) are inherently more stable than even a single full trailer connected directly to a straight truck. Scroll down to "Rating Different Types of Combination Vehicles" for the summary: http://www.nzta.govt.nz/assets/resources/heavy-learner/heavy-combination-vehicles/docs/heavy-combination-vehicles.pdf Some states that allow "wiggle wagon" connections restrict them to doubles where the first trailer is a 5th wheel less than 28 ft. in overall length, another problem for RV use.
