RV_
Really? Excerpt: "As new coronavirus outbreak continues to spread, some people seem to think that the deadly outbreak is somehow related to Corona beer. It's not. The alcoholic beverage from Mexico showed a surge in Google searches in the past week, along with the term “corona beer virus” and “beer virus.” In the United States, Google Trends calculated that 57% of the people that searched one of those terms searched for “beer virus,” and the remaining 43% searched for “corona beer virus.” States like Hawaii, New Mexico and Kansas are searching "beer virus" more, whereas states like South Carolina, Colorado and Arizona are searching "corona beer virus" more. Can't teach stupid, source: https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2020/01/29/coronavirus-corona-beer-surges-on-google-trends-as-virus-spreads/4606997002/ And this? "Some of my fellow travelers on spaceship Earth are stupid. Masks not necessary here, if they become better than nothing, it will be announced. “Surgical masks are a basic defense against some viruses, and they may be helpful in communities where health officials suspect viruses are circulating widely. But in the US, there’s no need to wear surgical masks — or the N95 respirators physicians wear when treating viruses — says infectious disease expert Dr. Charles Chiu. There’s no evidence of sustained novel coronavirus transmission in the US like there is in China, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not recommended Americans wear masks in public. “Right now, there’s no evidence that [wearing face masks] is going to help prevent that infection,” Chiu, a professor of laboratory medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, told CNN. “I would not recommend that someone in the US who does not have direct exposure, did not recently travel to China…or in general that you go buy a face mask.” Source: https://ktla.com/2020/01/28/coronavirus-scare-has-surgical-masks-selling-out-in-u-s-but-physicians-say-theres-no-need/ Edited January 30, 2020 by RV_ Quote RV/Derekhttp://www.rvroadie.com Email on the bottom of my website page.Retired AF 1971-1998 When you see a worthy man, endeavor to emulate him. sandsys
My clinic has mask dispensers at the entrance but they have nothing to do with the coronavirus since the dispensers existed long before we heard of the new virus. The problem, however, was that many (most?) parents simply wanted their darlings to get an "A" in the course, regardless of whether or not they had demonstrated any knowledge of the subject. I got so tired of hearing "but she's gotten A's in every other course she's taken in high school!" as if that was a justification for why I should give her an "A". Linda I have asthma/COPD, which often causes me to cough, repeatedly if I have an attack. Now when I'm in public and begin coughing, I cover my mouth always, but now I get a lot of stares.I wear a mask when outside working and It restricts my breathing even more, which in turn causes more coughing, What is the solution to restricted airways and being in public? Striper
Ok, for the record. I worked for the local school district for 13 years. During that time I met, and still know, a number of very good and dedicated teachers. However somewhere in the neighborhood of 75% of the teachers were just there for a pay check, and made no bones about telling you that. Also during that time, the amount of money the State payed the district per student DOUBLED, but the amount the teachers had to spend in their classroom for supplies WENT DOWN. However also during that time the amount of ADMINISTRATORS, ie higher paid folk, doubled. And of course each and every one of those folks had to have their own personal secretary. Here locally the amount spent on Administration is way out of line, but nobody seems to want to try and rein it in. Bottom line, the kids get short changed. As for the taxes part, here locally we are paying for several levies to the schools and will most likely be having another levy pass this year. We taxpayers in this area do support our schools, but our schools are seriously letting us down. As to backing, all one has to do is compare USA(#20) and Japan(#2) education system to see how cultural and economic differences affect student performance. Randyretired
In our county a new administrator was elected after campaigning to reduce administrative costs. The voters also voted in new taxes to go to teacher salary. Well the administrative people nearly doubled and there were big raises given to them with new fancy titles. Teacher pay increases were nearly nonexistent but class sizes were bigger. The new administrator was finally forced to resign and another administrator is working to undo the mess. The school board also requested another tax increase as it said it needed more money. The tax payers did not agree.
