rickeieio
I have two trucks, both with the same Eaton 10 spd,. but the work truck (Mack) is manual, while the RV puller (Volvo) is automated, The first couple years we had the Volvo, I ran it in manual mode, as I didn't trust the auto-shift function, Then when we went to Alaska, I decided to give it a fair shake. There's no going back. While I still used the manual mode occasionally to keep the tranny from shifting too much on grades, I pretty much stays in auto. The reason diesels have so many gears is because the rpm spread is much less. My gas engine truck has a working spread of good power from 1000 rpm to 5500 rpm. A big diesel typically would have usable power from 1200 rpm to about 2000 rpm. skylve
Thanks for the replies everyone, my next time back here will most likely be once I get the hdt. I'm planning on buying the hdt in a few months, and then I'll buy a trailer once the truck is all set up. Happy camping to all!
