Mark&Chong
How’s 285 from the Denver area to Del Northe with a 5th wheel? Google maps shows it about 50 miles shorter then I-25 to 160 which I did coming up here. I’ve been up and down I-25 several times and this year and really would like to avoid some of the construction if possible. Kirk W
It has been several years since I last traveled that route, and I have never done so towing a fifth wheel It is scenic and the last I knew in good condition, but I suspect that it will take longer and possibly more fuel as well due to the grades it has. With any luck at all, there will be others who have traveled 285 recently. Quote Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... 2gypsies
285 is an OK route for RVers and many drive it. However, you'll have a few passes - Kenosha Pass north of Fairplay southbound will have 2 mi of 6% grade with 50 MPH speed limit. Also north of Fairplay is Red Hill about 1 mi of 6% grade. Then near the 285/24 junction you'll have Trout Creek Pass... southbound descent is 4 mi of 5% then it eases up and the last 1.5 mi into Johnson Village is 5-6% grade. Mark&Chong
Thanks, That was what I was hoping for. I imagine that once you get off off the front range the traffic thins out also?
