OKed
When we started out on the road our kids all said we would be back real soon. It's been 26 yrs full time now Is there anyone out there that manages campgrounds during the summer?
LiveWorkDream
Hi @OKed! We are going on our 17th year of being nomads, nice to meet you! When you ask about managing campgrounds, do you mean as in being a Work Camper? My husband and I don't right now, but there are lots of great resources to find manager gigs. We love Workamper News for that sort of thing, which we've done on and off over the years. If you're looking for work I suggest checking 'em out! Quote Rene & JimExploring North America since 2007. jimnlin
Late to party... in 1996 retired with 1996 FL60 Freightliner and 1991 HH 40ft fifth. Traded trailer in 1998 for 38ft HH and began looking for ideal spot to settle. After many trips around country, nothing met desires. Wife was a programmer with Texas Instruments and while in Yuma for winter in 1999, got a call from old boss and asked her to contract to get ready for the feared 2k coming up. Got thru that and and made many SKP events. Did not do any CG gigs but managed a few self storage jobs. Still in same trailer and truck, do have a 2011 Hyundai for everyday use. I was fortunate to have been able to retire pretty early and when we hit the road our goal was to stay fulltime for at least 15 years but my wife's health issues forced us back to part-time after 12 years. coyote
I retired at 38 yrs old in 1988 and the 2nd campground job was at Rainbow's End in Livingston in the fall of 1988. We have done many campground management jobs for federal, state and private over the years. Not taking any currently but still love the full-time life. It's been a good way to supplement our income. Solo18
When I started out 12 years ago, my younger son said I would die in a fiery crash 200 miles down the freeway. I told him I could keep my condo and sit in my chair watching TV for the next 20 years, and I would probably die in my chair, but that I would much prefer to actually do something with the rest of my life, so I'd take the chance of that crash. lappir
Preparing to move from my Winter spot to a bit of travel this summer. Started working as a Travel Nurse in 1989, but didn't start the Full Time RV life till much later. My only regret was not starting it sooner. Will have to find work next winter, just not sure what I will be doing. I've enjoyed not working but still have things I want to do that will take more money than what will be coming in from the retirement funds. No plans on hanging up the keys any time soon. That sounds like you retired from the military? That was my original plan but life got in the way and so I left after 8 years but was fortunate to have then worked for a company that had an early retirement with full benefits that I qualified for at 57. We didn't take any paid jobs on the road but did receive a small stipend at 3 of our stops. We started out as RV volunteers in order to save money on RV sites, but we quickly discovered that we loved the RV volunteer lifestyle and so we continued doing that even after getting SS made it so that we didn't need to pinch pennies so much. 2 hours ago, lappir said: No plans on hanging up the keys any time soon. Oh how I envy you! As I look back, I suppose that we were fortunate to have traveled for as long as we did since Pam had some health issues before we retired. We probably could have pushed thing out a couple of years more but doctor visits had become the key factor in our travel plans. We did manage to get out and make 3 more RV volunteer experiences when things improved but that was it. We still manage to travel a little by car or cruise ship but I sure miss the fulltime lifestyle! Quote Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... jperry29
Full time since 2012 and still going strong. We have been campground hosts many times over the years. In fact, we have volunteered for one agency or another continuously our entire fulltiming life, with the exception of one contract camp host job (which we will never do again). Everything else has been as a volunteer. Like Kirk, we have had a few of those that gave a stipend. Nice to get but nothing to write home about.
