RV Chassis Battery Needs Jump after Home plug in

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Escapee forums! We are here to help and will do our best to answer any questions. In most motorhomes, when you plug in the power cord it will supply the 120V items in the coach and also recharge the batteries for the coach but most do not charge the chassis battery. I suspect that your chassis battery would fail just as quickly if you do not plug in your power cord. Am I correct that your coach is the Melbourne on the Mercedes diesel chassis? It might be of some help if you tell us a little more about the RV.

If you have not done so, I would take the battery to a shop that sells batteries and have it load tested, which they will do for free. If this is the original battery, it is now 5 years old and quite possibly be near the point of failure. It is normal that the entry step doesn't work when it won't start because the step does get power from the chassis battery. I think that you might find it very helpful to take the time to read The 12V Side of Life which was written by Mark Nemeth, who writes for the Escapees Magazine.
