Need recommendations for RV parks south of Tucson

Recommended Posts

Hi, we are having trouble finding an RV park south of Tucson that meets the following criteria (it can be SE or SW of Tucson)

1. It has to be as quiet a location as possible. Some road noise is acceptable if it's off in the distance.

2. It still needs to be close enough to essential stores and such so we can ideally bike to them.

3. The RV park should have state or public land bordering it so we can walk out of the park and be in the desert. We love the Sonoran Desert.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Thad

We like the SKP Co-Op in Benson suggestion. We stayed at one in CA about 2 years ago.

This could be our first location, but we'd continue looking for a place with a pool and whirlpool. Might sound a bit too picky, but we love places with pools and whirlpools. Muscles get sore from hiking, you know. Nothing beats soaking in a whirlpool.

Thanks, Darryl and Rita, 2gypsies, and Kirk W. Any more suggestions from you (or other members) that we can look into? We need some help with this winter location.

We've looked into Catalina State Park. It's very appealing. But it has a 2-week max stay and then you have to move to another site.

So far, the best suggestion above is the SKP park in Benson. We may go that way.

We love quiet. Does anyone have any more Tucson area suggestions that are quiet (as possible)?

What you are looking for in the Tucson area will be hard to find.

Have you check out RV park reviews? https://campgrounds.rvlife.com/

Other parks I can think of might be

Justin's Diamond J (off the beaten path but right outside of hiking trails)

Second the recommendation for Pima County Fairgrounds or the SKP Saguaro Park

Tucson /Lazy Days KOA

..... but he wants to bike to shopping although he didn't say how many miles he's willing to bike.  The Escapees Saguaro park is withing a mile or so of grocery shopping and restaurants.

One important question is if you are looking for an RV park where you can stay several months, or just several days?  And how big is your RV?  You tell us about the last two RVs you have owned helps, but are you living in one of those right now?  Some RV parks, especially older ones, may not be able to handle the 44' motorhome.  I am guessing maybe you need full hookups, but that is important also.  Telling us you like pools and whirlpools really helped.

There were questions above about the type of RV we have, how far we’re willing to bike to nearby stores, and how long we intend to stay.

We would be staying at this Tucson area site for the duration of the winter months, so up to four or five months.

We have a 30 foot travel trailer with two slides. Our trailer is rated for 50 A, but we can do a 30 amp hook up if necessary

And in regards to the biking distance question above, we can bike as much as 5 to 7 miles to get to a nearby store. In the past at one site, we were biking 3 miles to a shopping area and 3 miles back. This was on a section of the Tucson Loop of excellent road biking trails. However, there were some problems with this place, so we’re not going back to it.

With these added details, we’re open to more suggestions.
